DUDE, WHERE'S MY CIVIL WAR? From Ralph Peters in Iraq March 5, 2006 -- BAGHDAD I'M trying. I've been trying all week. The other day, I drove another 30 miles or so on the streets and alleys of Baghdad. I'm looking for the civil war that The New York Times declared. And I just can't find it.

Can't be. The New York Times knows everything and is always right.
Journalistic truth doesnt meet with the Mainstream Media Agenda...just doesnt.
What a great title, and slap at that fat ingrate, Michael Moore.
Iran is not a country without an ability to stir up trouble or foment civil strife in Iraq.
Great read, AND I hate to be a pest, **BUT** what is your html or print source? WHO typed this? Can you provide a link?
That's FR guidelines anyway ;-p
Blueflag (lazily expecting others to post good links for 4 years)
Also, here's a response to the article posted at NRO Corner.
RE RALPH PETERS IN BAGHDAD [Cliff May]
Derb, I take your point and while I think Ralph is always smart, insightful and worth reading, I cant honestly say that Im not increasingly pessimistic.
Al-Qaeda, the Baathists and the Iranian mullahs all believe that, in the Leninist construction, "the worse the better."
They believe that a civil war would drive the U.S. out and leave Iraq as a bloody corpse -- on which they would happily feed.
In other words, they have a strategy. What's our counter-strategy? To hope that Iraqis refuse to go along? Hope is not a strategy.
(I have similar worries re Iran: the mullahs intend to get nukes. Do we really intend to stop them? If they get nukes, do we bet they won't use them? What odds would Jimmy the Greek give you on that?)
I have no doubt that the American military is learning valuable lessons in Iraq about how to fight Militant Islamists. I have much doubt that they are learning fast enough that they will prevail in this consequential battle before the American public sours on the mission.
There was never any guarantee that we would succeed in helping decent Iraqis create a decent society. I do think it would be a stunning defeat if we were to leave Iraq with Abu Musab al-Zarqawi still alive and al-Qadea in Iraq still a force to be reckoned with. Other defeats would almost certainly follow in other places (Pakistan? Lebanon? Jordan? Afghanistan? If not, why not?)
Meanwhile, Democrats offer no credible alternative to the administrations policies. Most Democrats, like most Europeans, are in denial over the very fact that we're in a serious war against a very dangerous enemy.
They want to fight Bush and Republicans -- because Bush and Republicans they can maybe beat.
They don't want to fight Islamic Fascism because they don't have a clue as to how they would go about taking on such a foe while simultaneously keeping everyone happy at the UN and Human Rights Watch and the NYT and the Daily Kos and CAIR and
Hi Folks: It is my first attempt at posting an article here.
Although I do not have that information at my fingertips, I will be sure to have it if I post again. I can get it from my source, who is a conservative friend.
The things you ask for were not required for posting but I agree I should have all that information before posting.
Thanks for your patience. These things need to be heard by this Country. I will get back to you on the source. : )
This writer is obviously full of crap. It's not like he's there.... (sarcasm)
You are absolutley right !
The MSM wants the appearance of a Civil War so they can make the same claim in Vietnam that the hostilities are just a civil war and the US has no business being there.
Here is a note I just received from my girlfriend who has a son in Baghdad. If I may share:
*With a son in Baghdad, I don't appreciate the
disinformation. I worried a little extra these past
few days, since I hadn't heard from Joe.
But he tells me not to believe the press. He loves
the Iraqis and said they are good people and they love
America and are grateful to the Americans.*
We ought to sue the MSM for malfeasance.
The civil war was predicted by the same folks who predicted:
100,000 U.S. body bags in Afghanistan.
A Soviet style bog down in the Afghani mountains.
A collapse of U.S. control into just Kabul.
The failure of Afghan tribal factions to form a government.
The failure of President Karzai to hold the Afghan govt. together, once formed.
A success for the "containment" policy in Iraq.
A breakaway Kurdish state, causing civil war in Turkey.
A stiff resistance by the Republican Guard.
Repeated terrorist retaliations from Al Queda in the U.S.
Widespread evidence of government sanctioned torture.
Mass arrests of Arab-American citizens without trial.
Violent assaults on Muslims in the U.S. by redneck hoodlums.
Failure to supress radical Shia clerics, leading to civil war.
Zarkawi winning the popular support of the Sunni Triangle.
The escape of Saddam and sons.
The failure of the writing of a draft of the constitution.
The failure of the popular vote by Iraqi citizens.
The failure of the 2nd popular vote by Iraqi citizens.
The failure of the 3rd popular vote by Iraqi citizens.
The failure of the ratification of the constitution.
These guys are like "French Benefits" Frank, in the commercial. They're always wrong.
I've been hearing the media get all hopped up over a civil war for at least the more than two years I've been here and I've never seen it.
We have a new source of amusement at dinnertime. We watch CNN in the chow hall and when they start their nightly Iraq-Fiction, we laugh at just about every sentence of crapola Anish Ramin (or whatever his name is) spews. It's not worth getting angry about anymore.
CNN's location is Baghdad is very close to where we are. They're seeing the same things we are, but the difference is that they lie about it and we don't.
Oh thank you Allegra !!
Well, I still get angry when I come across CNN or Apathetic Americans.
We pray for your safety and the safety of all our Armed Forces in harms' way.
Never Forget !!!!!!
