BAGHDAD, Iraq (AP) -- Gunmen in camouflage uniforms stormed the offices of a private security company Wednesday and kidnapped as many as 50 employees, police reported.
The attackers hit the al-Rawafid Security Co., a private Iraqi-owned business, at 4:30 p.m. and forced the workers into seven vehicles, including several white SUVs, said Interior Ministry Maj. Felah Al-Mohammedawi.
The company is located in the mixed Sunni-Shiite Zayouna neighborhood in eastern Baghdad.
The White House press corps is gonna be P!SSED that they were not called first.

oh i hadn't thought of that!!! i was just thinking how much fun the press will have with this...50 hostages, some found dead, etc. i wonder where Dick Cheney was???
I would be really shocked if this was Blackwater. Those guys don't F around and are made up of many spec ops, specialized millitary personell. Odds are this was some other company handling less sensitive security matters such as infrastructure or individuals.
I do hope this wasn't inspired by Monday night's episode of '24'.
i don't watch t.v. so don't have any idea. lol maybe something Stephen King wrote or AC/DC sang though...
The Dubai corporation sent in the take over specialists.
LOL!
Ops4 God Bless America!
"Security Office" could mean local militia. "Armed Gunmen" in fatigues can mean Iraqi troops. There are a couple other threads on this now. We should have trickles of information for a few hours. If you have an RSS feed, updates will be appreciated.
It is a sign we're winning. The enemy is going for a scorched earth, and that's why they're going all out lately. They're doing as much damage as they can now, because their time is short.
You must sell ice cubes to Eskimos for a living.

Did you know that in World War II, some German soldiers actually managed to kill some American soldiers? Believe it or not, some German military units actually carried out attacks that were considered effective or succussful, given the goals of the individual military action.
Fascinating, and true.
No. I really think that. It's like they're so desperate, they no longer care about anything at all. They're just killing everyone no matter what. They're freaking out.
Huh?
ROFL. Make no mistake these guys are good and motivated but don't believe ALL their PR. I know one Gunny who works for them that spent 8 of his 12 in recruiting. Another is a former tube artillery officer.
Let me simplify it for you. In war, we don't win every engagement. To win a war, you generally have to win most of them. We generally do just that. Taking these hostages is an individual defeat in a vast sea of victories.
When the kidnappers are found, and they will indeed be found, they should be eviscerated.
Have another mimosa.
...The attackers hit the al-Rawafid Security Co...

No, it's supposed to be happy, happy, joy, joy with goodie news from the media all the time. We can't think for ourselves and must be spoonfed cnn's pablum as to what to think.
I'm thinking that this 'security firm' employed a lot of non-Iraqi arabs from Syria, Yemen, SA, Iran, etc.
And the 'masked gunmen' were Iraq sequrity.
p.s. the CAPLOCKS key is right below the tab key and right above the shift key.
Vast sea of victories? Okay, if you want to believe that, be my guest. "More good news from Iraq" and all that, you know.
It's a war.
The Nazis looked pretty strong in the Battle of the Bulge, but in fact it was a last-ditch desperation attack. The enemy in Iraq is doing their own Battle of the Bulge - the increased desperation is apparent in their choices of targets and methods. Obviously IEDs aren't doing the job for them, even when it's Iranian military explosives.
Well there are 50 openings in that company now because their bodies will start turning up soon.
i bet that is exactly what happened.
re:caplock, i copy/pasted from a breaking news in my inbox.
None of the American or Brit companies screw around over there that is probably why they went after an Iraqi security company.
What does linking the story have to do with my comment?
I told that poster that "you must sell ice cubes to Eskimos for a living" relating to the fact this poster is trying to sell us on the idea that the violence is on its last leg and the terrorists are ready to call it quits.
I, of course, think that is bull. This nation will be in chaos for eternity or until some iron-handed dictator rules again. These people are not stable or sane enough to have a peaceful, democratic society, nor have they shown the passion and desire to win their own nation back from internal terrorists.
excuse me!!! i posted to the wrong person! someone asked to have updates. sheesh!!!
No problem. As Forest Gump said, "it happens".
it's what happens when i type after only one cup of coffee. lol i see where i messed up, i knew it was a long nick, picked the wrong one. :-/
OK. We've seen on this thread and others your rather sharp and mocking comments about the situation in Iraq. We can see that that is your perspective on the current conditions.
But what exactly is your answer to what is happening in Iraq? What do you believe the reality is and what do you think should be done about it? I'm ready to listen to a reasonable alternative.
