N.J. governor bailed out lobbyist accused of stalking party chairman
Associated Press ^ | 3/8/2006 | Star-Ledger of Newark

In his first political firestorm since taking office in January, Gov. Jon S. Corzine said Wednesday that he provided $5,000 in bail money to a lobbyist accused of stalking a state assemblyman.

"I reacted as a human being responding to someone in need," the multimillionaire Democrat said. "However, in light of my position as governor, I realize this was a mistake."

Karen Golding, a government relations manager for insurance giant Prudential Financial, is accused of breaking into the government-issued car of Assemblyman Joseph Cryan, a Democrat, and of writing threatening letters and making threatening calls to Cryan and others.

Authorities have not discussed a motive.

Corzine said Golding, 36, requested money after her Feb. 6 arrest and he complied because she worked for his 2000 Senate campaign and he remains friendly with her family.

"Jon Corzine's payment of bail money for Karen Golding doesn't just reek of bad judgment and conflicts of interest but raises the specter that Gov. Corzine's actions were intended to prevent something more damaging from coming to light.

Why else would a sitting governor bail out a lobbyist," ...

So, Corzine bails her out?

Tom Kean Jr had better start harping on the "Culture of Corruption" if he wants to win the US Senate seat.

(AP) TRENTON New Jersey Gov. Corzine posted $5,000 bail for a lobbyist who is accused of stalking the Democratic State Committee chairman.

Karen Golding is accused of breaking into Assemblyman Joe Cryan's state-issued car.

Golding is manager of government relations at Prudential Financial. She worked on Corzine's 2000 Senate campaign.

A Corzine spokesman told The Star-Ledger of Newark that the governor offered the loan after ensuring that Golding was not a danger to the community.

The aide said that Corzine did not know that the Democratic chairman was the target of the stalking.

The 36-year-old lobbyist is scheduled to appear in court on March 16.

Cryan declined comment.

During the gubernatorial campaign, it was learned that Corzine had forgiven a $470,000 loan to a former girlfriend. Carla Katz heads one of the state public employee unions

Rank, and wealth on top, has its privileges. Deal with it. NJ voters probably love it.

Jon Corzine loaning his former girlfriend, Carla Katz (who happens to be the head of the 9.000 member Communications Workers of America Union in New Jersey) about $470K and then forgave the debt when they broke up.

I wish I could dig up my relatives all buried in NJ back to 1800 (all registered Dems, of course - not by choice), the state is such an embarrassment. It's like North Korea with rich people (with the same epicurean habits).

The residents of NJ don't care. They're crooked scumbags. Every last rat-infested one of them.

It seems you have done a very thorough survey. Easy ones twice?

Insert LA for NJ anywhere you wish in this article and it reads the same.

Corrupt Dems are all the same no matter how different their accents.

Is Corzine a KISS fan? She bears an uncanny resemblance to Paul Stanley.

What a moronic and utterly stupid thing to write.

I suppose it would be easy for all of us "red-state Jerseyans" (there are a lot of us) to uproot and take up residence in red states. With our high rate of college-educated residents, and facility with fast-paced and demanding jobs, we'd quickly take up the best employment in our new locale. Of course, we'd get tagged with the modern equivalent of "Okie" or whatever you want to call us.

Some of us are staying here not because we don't care, but because we DO care. We're fighting the good fight. We're trying to make a difference. We're trying to convert hearts and minds so that N.J. can be a red state one day soon. A good conservative might applaud that effort, and hope that that spirit would spread to all corners of the U.S. Then there are the pea-brains who make idiotic statements like the one you did.

Leave this poor woman alone! She was Cryan’s pregnant ex girlfriend. After he roughed her up he had her locked up and Jonny boy gave her the cash. $50000 bail for opening an unlocked car door? This SMELLS really bad
