4-Hour Standoff Chokes Freeways (Illegal felon shuts down 710 freeway)
LA Times ^ | March 9, 2006 | Richard Winton and J. Michael Kennedy, Times Staff Writers

Thousands of hapless travelers were trapped Wednesday on the Long Beach Freeway, and a possibly related accident resulted in the death of one man, as police waited out a kidnapping suspect whose getaway car had stalled on the highway.

SNIP

One hour turned to another, and the stretch of freeway that carries 215,000 vehicles a day remained gridlocked as morning turned to afternoon. More than four hours later, a man in a white T-shirt wanted in the reported kidnapping of a young woman late last year emerged from a maroon Ford minivan in South Gate and gave himself up.

SNIP

Trips that normally took 30 minutes turned into hours-long ordeals, as the California Highway Patrol closed off about seven miles of the 710 in both directions between East Los Angeles and Lynwood.

SNIP

Police identified the object of the chase and standoff as Eduardo Medina, 33, an alleged Eastside gang member wanted in connection with a reported kidnapping in December.

SNIP

The LAPD's Vernon said that Medina is a member of a Hollenbeck-area gang and that his alleged accomplice was Roberto Alba, 18, whom authorities identified as a gang associate.

Medina "surrendered peacefully, and, given his history, that is good ending," Vernon said. "He's a convicted felon. He has been deported once to Mexico and reentered the country illegally after being deported. He has been arrested for concealed weapons charges; he's been arrested for robbery."

Alba had already been charged with kidnapping for ransom and second-degree robbery. He is being held in lieu of $2-million bail. Medina faces charges of kidnapping and attempted kidnapping and is being held in lieu of $2.2-million bail.

... Jane Robison, a spokeswoman, said a conviction in this case could be a third strike for Medina.

Good thing he was an illegal felon. If he had been a legal felon they couldn't have done anything about his behavior.

More Bush invitees. Trouble is, perhaps it would have been smarter to shut down the DC beltways. Maybe if the legislators here had been inconvenienced they would think harder about what they are saying.

No, more likely he will be invited to speak to our congress about the plight of migrants in the USA. He should also be charged for the gasoline burned because of him. Do the math and it was substantial. How about lost time at work due to his behavior?

True, afterall, it is a job that legal American citizens just don't want to do. And that justifies his illegal presence in this country -- just ask our President (you won't get an answer).

Bienvenidos a Amexica.

We had another van load of illegals crash Tuesday in San DIego County. One dead, 18 injured, many seriously. It's barely news any more, it happens so often. All of the injured invaders are being treated (for free) at local hospitals.

He could have been an unlegal felon or a slightly legal felon???

More than lost work and gas ...

The shutdown illustrated clearly how the 710 acts as a lifeline moving cargo out of the nation's largest and second-largest seaports.

The freeway is the most direct route from the harbor to the rail yards east of downtown Los Angeles, and even on a normal day, truck traffic frequently slows to a crawl in northbound lanes near Firestone.

So Wednesday's closure assumed nightmarish proportions for truckers and commuters alike."

It's like a tutorial for Jihadists.

Heck, that's nothing! An Africon-American church just up the hill and east of downtown Seattle shut down the downtown I-5 traffic during the afternoon rush hour a couple of years ago. They did it to protest something about racism by the white man.

They walked down from the top of Madison Street down to I-5, blocked traffic, and were NOT arrested. Afterwards they were too tired to walk back up Madison and were given a ride by the public transportation system.

I called the Washington State Patrol and asked them if I were to do that would I be arrested. He said "yes."
But of course, that's because I am a white boy and white boys are the scourge of the Earth.

Thank you for that reminder, I overlooked that part of it. I use that freeway alot and others who use it will tell you, it should be renamed the Via Mexicana. I dare any of you to drive thru south gate, paramount, bell, bell gardens etc with a a W sticker in your car window. I do, but I have utter disdain for these rodents anyways.

Here's the story on I-5 in downtown Seattle being blocked in 2002 by Black protesters who were not arrested.
