The long and the short of it is that this will end in a nuclear catastrophe unless the U.S. acts, against the protests of its own Fifth Column.

It doesn't take a genius to keep European diplomats talking, talking, talking.

I often muse about "experienced diplomats" working where I do:) Experienced is no different in American diplomacy, where "employees" are Tenured between 2-5 years length and then kept on... which in my estimation means "Experienced". Government employees in a pay system, e.g., GS, FS, FP, or military pay grades all know someone worthless who works, and the system is based on a simple calculation that accepting substandard employees enhances one's own potential and prospects for promotion, to the experienced and higher paying positions.

For once in my life, I can actually say I understand the merits of "Political Appointees" in getting the job done right!
