"Sometimes it just takes a few years of work to establish a position's legitimacy."
Or the environment changes to the extent that what was at first considered a wild notion moves toward legitimacy. That's what I think is going to happen with regard to abortion.

If yall aren't aware, you need to be. There is an attack on life in society and it's not just the unborn that are at risk.

With abortion on one end and mercy killing on the other
that gap will continue to close until only beautiful,
healthy, young people are left.

Thank you for posting this, I also have a "special child" whom I adopted and he is a joy to everyone he touches.

They are not "cute" when they are 30, or 40...but most are very lovable and friendly. A family that takes this path must be able to establish perpetual care for their special child after the parents are gone, and be aware that their special child's mourning for them will be that of a lost child, forever. There is no easy path to take, here.

I would not be opposed to liberals having abortions... You know, everybody is born liberal...completely dependent upon everybody but themselves for everything, but ultimately grow out of it.
Liberals are simply folks that never progressed much past that point.
There are many conservatives who were unfortunate enough to have idiot liberals for parents, so there is hope.

and most die in the area of 20s-40s
Yes, indeed. Wifey's brother had Downs and died this past August at the age of 69...an extreme rarity.

"Does he deserve to live? Of course. Would my parents go through it again? No they would not and have said so."

My oldest son died when he was 11 months old, from a genetic disease called Globoid Cell Leukodystrophy (Krabbe's). It is a degenerative disease. He was in pain as his nerves deteriorated. Two days before he died my second son was aborted after he was diagnosed in utero with the same disease. The disease is 100% fatal. To this day I live with the shame of what my wife and I did and I ask myself where was my faith. At the time though we were both exhausted with caring for our first born 24 hours a day.

Thanks for the sentiment. I just passed this on because I do understand how difficult it is to have the responsibilities you have and to let you know the alternative comes with a very high price.

Cute baby? Thank you. You must have seen the picture on my "about page". Scroll down a little farther and you'll see the obvious connection by looking at great grandpa!
On a more serious note though, I don't know the answer to your question about false positives, I have heard that it is quite high, which leads me to the question of, if it is so inaccurate why have it at all?
By the way, my daughter is a teacher too and is conservative in her politics

"Spend thirty-five or so years with a profoundly retarded family member and get back to us on what a blessing it is."
I have spent 25 years raising my profoundly physically and mentally disabled son and I am extremly blessed. I would not change one moment, and I'm positive my feelings won't change in 10 years. Of course it's not always peaches and cream but such is life. We've had to make sacrifices, and it's not the life we would have envisioned, but we deal with the cards we were dealt. Having our son has made us better people in ways we never would have imagined.

Liked your posts too. Sorry you had so much personal experience with the darker side of this issue. I haven't personally, but know a couple of families who have, and I certainly wouldn't bring a new person into the world who I knew would never be able to be self-sufficient, much less able to help others.
