The Bill they can't stomach
Voting Clinton's boyhood home a historic site too much for these 12 angry lawmakers

WASHINGTON -- Congress usually approves designation of a former president's boyhood home as a national historic site without much controversy.

But this is Bill Clinton. The former president still raises the hackles of some Republicans and could be the first first man if his wife, Hillary, should be elected president.

A dozen Republican House lawmakers voted against a bill this week to name the former president's birthplace a national historic site and a unit of the National Park Service, indicating that antipathy toward the former president lingers in the GOP-controlled Congress even on legislation considered non-controversial.

Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite (R-Fla.) forced a roll call vote on the bill by objecting that Clinton had spoken to the company, owned by the foreign government, without registering as a foreign agent. "He has some explaining to do," she told lawmakers.

Rep. Ernest Istook (R-Okla.) took the same position. His spokesman, Matt Lambert, said the congressman "has never been a big fan of Bill Clinton" but that he voted against the historic-site bill because of the Dubai deal.

In congressional testimony last week, Edward Bilkey, the chief operating officer of Dubai Ports World, acknowledged that Clinton had called Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem, the company's chief executive, to recommend former White House press secretary Joe Lockhart as a consultant.

Clinton has acknowledged that the company sought his advice but denied any further involvement.

But, he added, Clinton "ought to be an inspiration to every child out there, whether leaning toward being a Republican or Democrat.

The designation of such sites carry the assumed mantle of honor.

There was nothing honorable about Bill Clinton and, if I were a Senator, I would vote against the bill on those grounds. We do not want to encourage the emulation of him or anything he stands for.

I don't know what it would be, but something more appropriate for the legacy of Bill Clinton should highlight the theme of "Lessons Learned." Then there would be a long, long list of things not to do, along with appropriate illustrations. Visitors would walk away with a true understanding of this despicable and pathetic man, rather than some puffed up nonsense about his boyhood past.

The historical value of this home would be to inspire future generations by showing where the boy Bill Clinton threated to punch out his drunk stepfather to prevent him from abusing his mother?

Maybe they can post a plaque in the shower stall where little Bent Billy first rubbed one out and set his path going forward.

Or, maybe the closet where he secreted his first porn mags from Mom's prying eyes.

I think that perhaps there could be a shortage of brass plaques in this country if they decide to go all out in their recognition of the former pervert in chief.

Maybe they can find some of girls that lived in the neighborhood to ID the 'hot spots'.

'But, he added, Clinton "ought to be an inspiration to every child out there, whether leaning toward being a Republican or Democrat. If President Clinton, with the things he had in his background, could reach the nation's highest office, any of you should know it's not out of reach, either."'

OMG. An inspiration to every child? That explains the rise in teenage blow jobs. It's not sex. Logical conclusion in the teenage mind.

I guess he means it's not out of reach for any pimp.

Given Clinton's mother's reputation, if half of what is alleged of her is true, she wouldn't have cared if Bill had a stash of porn mags in his room.

Maybe these Congressmen are being a little unfair to Clinton. After all, Billy Carter had to register as a foreign agent (for Libya) and his boyhood home is a national historic site.
