I went to Spring Break recently, my boyfriend lived in Panama City Beach. He worked for Chrysler doing marketing and got put up in a condo on the beach. He also knew bouncers and bartenders at LaVela (the biggest club) and so I got in and drank for free. It was great. I never need to go there again though

I can agree with that statement, here in AIT, we have quite an impressive number of people acting like there's no tommorrow in regards to sexual activity. It's disgusting, but what can you do about it?

I do live here in Panama City Beach - a block and a half from the beach. We are raising 3 and 5 yr old girls. Thankfully, the locals know what to do and how to avoid the craziness that certainly goes on here. I just want folks out there to know that there are decent Christian folks who live here and we pray for all who touch our pristine white sand. There's a Christian organization where thousands of college students come for spring break and they do wonderful things here. They come back for the summer, get full time jobs, worship every spare moment and then volunteer and witness while here. That's the good side no one talks about. Oh well. We pray for these kids that come down. Believe me, they need it and I wish their parents knew what they are doing while here....

Our area is going through a building boom with lots of new businesses, condos, and homes being built. Very soon spring break will become extinct in "PCB"......We hope. While they are here thugh, we pray and try to watch out for them as best as we can.

I agree, if I remember correctly, I think Lavela got sold and is going to be demolished for space to build condos. I really liked my time there on break, but I know the locals were not amused with the college crowd.

...and then there's Hollywood.

You are right, however, they put those plans on hold and sold the land they were relocating to. Big bummer. I think what happened was they heard that MTV wanted to come back here (last here in '96 I think) and so they kept it where it is. Nevertheless, this area's real estate market has gone sky high and will definitely begin catering to a different customer - a family based customer who can afford to spend similar money they would spend in Destin, Marco Island, etc. We will be glad when it happens! :) In the meantime, we will do all we can to pray for the kids who come down and go wild.

I never would give my older children a dime towards spring break. If they were under 18 they weren't allowed to go. I do not understand any parent allowing their underage child to go to Aurba or Cancun and paying for it. Its bad enough I worry everyday about my 24,23 and 19 yr old sons but to think they were on spring break in another country I don't know how I would get through it. And no I am not a paranoid mom, I just have rules and I know all too well what can happen in everyday life not just at spring break time.

For me, the regrets would've been if I had gone down that path ... not because I avoided it. Nice to know there are others who feel the same :)

Very wise. There are many of us who want to "experience life to the fullest, to see and experience all there is to see and experience, with some obvious exemptions". What we often aren't aware of at the time is that to choose one life you give up another which is often more fun and worthwhile, leading to more accomplishments and long term satisfaction. Robert Frost addressed that in his poem, "The Road Less Traveled"".

The road through life is a series of value judgements. We often do something just to exoperience it only to later learn it experienced us instead.

Indeed.

I think that the above comment sums up what newzjunkey and I were trying to convey, also.

Your entire post is well-stated.

Both beer and party girls are God's creations.
James 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.
James 1:13 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:
James 1:14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.
James 1:15 Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.

The Natalie Hollaway case being the perfect example; parents handing their daughter the VISA card to go 1,200 miles to a tropical island resort to drink and screw, then get horrified when something bad happens.

Also, nothing good has ever happened on Monday.

...especially if you bought a union made car assembled on that day.

Apparently you are one of those sorts who would drive this girl to suicide, one of those "small-town types" you cite, as though the girl deserves ostracism because she was from a small town, and should have known enough to anticipate the kind of treatment she'd get. Well, I was from a small town, but we welcomed everyone. We certainly wouldn't have driven anyone to suicide for a stupid "mistake" (if mistake it was).....oh, wait, of COURSE it was a mistake....a FATAL mistake, because as you say EVERYONE needs to know that their actions have consequences. I think the small-minded smalltowners you approve of should ALSO be aware that THEIR actions have consequences, . Like a girl's suicide. It boggles my mind any adult could write what you wrote with a straight face, and NO sense of irony at all.....but maybe this thread is just a bad dream....maybe you made it all up, about this girl's suicide....maybe FR is becoming the same kind of smalltown that people like you could live comfortably in.

"I would like to know how and why the Girls Gone Wild infomercials are allowed on basic cable TV."

They are on only late at night. And if a kid does see them, the obvious solution is to tell him to go to bed, and if a parent can't do that, they ought not to be busying themselves with cable TV but with supervising their kids. If you personally have a problem with them, change the channel.

The world does not revolve around the tastes of children, except perhaps those we elect to public office or Hollywood puts in the movies.
