UN war crimes tribunal denies request for Milosevic autopsy in Moscow

www.chinaview.cn 2006-03-12 05:50:15

BRUSSELS, March 11 (Xinhuanet) -- The U.N. war crimes tribunal said on Saturday it had denied a request by Slobodan Milosevic's lawyer to have the autopsy of the former Yugoslavia president conducted in Moscow instead of The Hague.

A tribunal official also declined to comment on a claim by Milosevic's lawyer that he had been poisoned while in jail.

The International Criminal Tribunal for the former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague on Saturday announced that Milosevic had been found dead on his bed in his cell at the UN detention unit in Scheveningen.

Milosevic, 64, has suffered from high blood pressure and heart problems.

On Feb. 24, the tribunal refused Milosevic's request to be temporarily released to Moscow in order to undergo medical treatment.

In a trial that started on Feb. 12, 2002, Milosevic faced 66 charges of war crimes, including genocide for his role in the Balkan wars following the breakup of the Yugoslav federation in the 1990s. Enditem

"Well as far as I'm concerned they should just dump the body in Kosovo and let the relatives of his victims tear it to pieces."

Now tell me, what would you like to see done with Clinton's remains after he caused/ordered the deaths of thousands of Serbians?

I can understand it may be painful for you to admit the US made a terrible mistake...but to deny a man justice and medical treatment only proves one thing to me. With the death of Milosovic The Hague court has written its obituary.

Slobby was a Commie thug before the breakup of Yugoslavia, which gave him the chance to be Stalin lite. Genocide is genocide whether the victims are Jews or otherwise.

I am no fan of the U.N. and my tagline still stands. The Useless Nations was against our bombing Serbia, too. The Serbian campaign was a NATO action. Thousands of German civilians died because of American bombing raids. Did that make Roosevelt a war criminal?

As much as I can't stand Clinton, I don't think any President would have simply ignored Slobby and let him continue on his merry megalomaniacle way.

If Slobo *really* was the sort of genociadal manaical tyrant the press and the UN make him out to be he'd be the only maniacal genocidal tyrant the press and the UN has ever been upset about.

Why has the War Crimes Tribunal for Yugoslavia suppressed forensic testimony about Srebrenica?
by Jared Israel and Max Sinclair (22-6-00)

On June 2, the War Crimes Tribunal or ICTY (International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia) recessed. Just before it recessed, the Tribunal held a week of forensic testimony in the case of Bosnian Serb General Radislav Krstic. The testimony was duly reported by the ICTY. Those who testified were even named. But none of the testimony was published by the ICTY or leaked to the press. How come?

General Krstic is on trial for his alleged role in what the Tribunal claims was the massacre of thousands of Islamist soldiers which supposedly took place when the Bosnian Serb army took the town of Srebrenica in Bosnian 1995.

We say 'alleged' and 'supposedly' and 'claims' because the only thing the Tribunal has actually proven is that the Serb Army did defeat Islamist forces at Srebrenica in '95.

The rest is accusation unencumbered by evidence.

After four years of press releases full of propaganda and unsupported claims, the Tribunal has not produced a shred of evidence that there was in fact a massacre.

The forensic experts' testimony was the Tribunal's big chance. Finally they could show the public some scientific evidence supporting NATO's claim that General Radislav Krstic's soldiers killed POWs loyal to Nasir Oric in Srebrenica.

Yet there is no news. There is not one article about the testimony. There are no interviews, no emotional statements from forensic experts overwhelmed by the horrors perpetrated by the Serbs. Nothing.

Why not?

Why doesn't the ICTY let the various Forensic Teams publish their findings?

Victims or Villains

Yugoslavia says the whole Krstic trial is an effort to turn matters upside down. That during the period when Islamist forces under Nasir Oric controlled Srebrenica the Islamists killed some 3,000 Serbian civilians in the area. Nasser Oric went public at that time, proudly displaying a video of Serbian civilians his troops had mutilated.

On the other side, what is there? With all the resources of NATO backing the Tribunal, what is there? There is only…a claim. NATO's claim that Gen. Krstic's soldiers killed 8,000 Islamist POWs.

According to the tribunal, forensic scientists have discovered 1,668 bodies 'in and around the Srebrenica area'. Is this true? We have only the Tribunal's word. And if it is true, whose bodies did the forensic experts find?

Now we are told the experts have testified. Why hasn't their testimony been made public?

Could it be their testimony was unacceptable (for NATO)?

Is the ICTY silent because their experts didn't testify the way NATO wanted them to testify?

Because they didn't say thousands of POWs were killed by Krstic's soldiers? Because they did say the bodies they had uncovered were the bodies of Serbian civilians murdered by Nasser Oric's terrorists, allied with NATO?

One might object to this line of reasoning. One might say "Why should a court publicize the testimony in a trial? Why should a court treat testimony as if it were propaganda?"

And that would be fair enough except that since its inception the Tribunal has frequently treated testimony as propaganda. And not only testimony that has actually been given but also testimony that may not have been given (i.e., that we are told was given in secret by witnesses later identified by a letter, as in 'the witness L testified that...,' as if the ICTY was not a Tribunal at all but a team of ghostwriters for Franz Kafka). Indeed the members of this court have made propaganda out of any and every morsel of rumor or gossip, every image that can be manipulated to attack the Serbs. For example, consider this from the 'Associated Press:'

"Chief Prosecutor of the International War Crimes Tribunal for former Yugoslavia Carla del Ponte, center, looks at a coffin being removed from a mass grave site by ICTY investigators in the village of Qirez, central Kosovo, on Wednesday, June 21, 2000. Del Ponte is on the second day of her visit to Kosovo where she met with U.N. and KFOR officials as well as Albanian and Serb community leaders." (AP Photo/Visar Kryezium, 6/21/2000)
Aside from the fact that this anti-Serb photo op offers no evidence as to who was actually buried in the graveyard - Serbs killed by the KLA? Serbs, Albanians or 'Gypsies' who died of natural causes? Albanian loyalists assassinated by Albanian secessionists? KLA terrorists shot in battle by the Yugoslav Army? ...

Aside from the question, "Since when do bloodthirsty mass murderers bury their victims in wooden coffins?" (To which the obvious answer is: ''Never.") ...

Aside from these questions there is another: "Since when do serious international courts send their chief prosecutors to make appearances when coffins are being pulled out of the ground in order to stage mass-grave photo ops?"

To which the answer is: "They don't, not if they are indeed serious international courts." Which suggests that the War Crimes Tribunal is indeed not a serious international court. It is the propaganda arm of NATO, organized by Madeline Albright, financed by NATO, designed and groomed and paid very well thank you to prove that NATO has done and is doing the right thing and that the Serbs are monsters.

So how come this War Crimes Tribunal and its Public Relations staff didn't stage any photo ops with the forensic experts who testified about Srebrenica?

Isn't this a case where silence is eloquent?

The Useless Nations was against our bombing Serbia, too.

"Our"????

Clinton authorised the bombed the Serbs on the behalf of criminal, genocidal, al-Qaeda linked Albanian Muslims. The Republican congress DENIED Clinton authorisation for the bombing.

Clinton never took the matter to the UN.

"Our" - what a telling statement by you.

PS: Slobo was not a Commie - he was a Socialist - you know - like England's Blair.

Seems to account for much of what is passed off as news by the MSM.

Ever see the Mel Gibson movie 'The Patriot'?

cripplecreek's comments kind of reminded me about the made up scene where the evil 'Red Coats' gather the Americans up in a church and burned it down.

That was bull drops too.

Comments by Petar Makara
Consulting Editor, Emperor's Clothes

The horror that Bosnian Serbs suffered at the hands of Muslims in the vicinity of Srebrenica is no secret. The Yugoslav State Commission for War Crimes submitted a 132 page study presenting this Serbian suffering as early as May 24, 1993 to the United Nations Security Council. Representatives of Republika Srpska (the Bosnian Serb Republic) were not allowed to submit similar documents because Republika Srpska was not recognized by the United Nations. Yugoslavia, as a UN member state (since 1945) and one of its founding nations, was allowed to submit this document.

The Security Council admitted the study as an official United Nations document. The document was given UN id numbers A/46/171 and S/25635 and dated 2 June 1993.

Many UN documents, crucial for understanding the civil wars in Bosnia in 1990's, were, on American insistence, declared classified. But this document was not. Its distribution was marked "General." Any Western journalist could have stopped by room GA57 in the basement of the U.N. Building at the corner of 46th Street and 1st Ave. in New York and gotten a copy. Or they could just called the U.N. Public Inquiry Office at (212) 963-4475 and ordered it.

If the contents of this document are false, why didn't the Western media report it and refute it? Its suppression eloquently proclaims its validity and the dishonesty of the media that suppressed the very news of its existence.

We present it in its entirety. More. It is scanned in original form. You can print the PDF files and you will have a photo-copy of the original.

You know what's what.

NATO declared war on Serbs - end of story.

If you come from a segment of the population where the govt. does no wrong (especially if linked to a military action) then the official story is good enough for you.

A detailed look at the conflict. The Serbs were hardly "Soldiers for Christ." I swear to God, some of the Serbian defenders sound like apologists for Saddam Hussein ("Where are the bodies?" etc).

WHY HAGUE COURT WANTS TO SILENCE MILOSEVIC

By John Catalinotto

July 10, 2004--The NATO-created International Criminal Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia (ICTY) in The Hague took ominous new steps July 5 to restrict former Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic's right to represent himself. The ICTY used Milosevic's real health problems as an excuse to justify depriving him of his rights.

The following day the court ruled that his trial would resume on July 14, but that it would assign a cardiologist to monitor Milosevic's health in preparation for forcing him to accept assigned counsel.

Milosevic has been imprisoned for three years in The Hague in a place where the Nazis held resistance fighters. For two years he cross- examined some 300 prosecution witnesses. He was about to begin his defense case. Though he was to be restricted to 150 days in court, the former president was prepared to present a powerful case exposing U.S. and NATO crimes in his country and exonerating himself and the Yugoslav people.

Milosevic told the media and the court that he would never accept an appointed counsel and he insisted on continuing his own defense. "This illegal court is daring to judge biological and medical issues after they have proven incapable of judging legal and historical issues," he said. "This court is like the Inquisition."

Madeleine Albright, who was U.S. secretary of state during the 1999 U.S.- NATO war against Yugoslavia, was seen in The Hague at the ICTY building on July 5. Albright is known as "the mother of the ICTY." Supporters of Milosevic believe her presence is connected with the court's decision to postpone the trial and its attempt to change the rules.

Milosevic's long-time aide, Vladimir Krsljanin, said from Belgrade on July 5, "What we have seen at The Hague is the worst kind of political theater and legal outrage directed at the president. Slobodan Milosevic was brought to trial while he was suffering bad health conditions. Despite our pleas and complaints and the petitions of medical experts to the ICTY, it refused our demands for more time for preparation and rest for President Milosevic.

"First the court created conditions that worsened his health, and now they are using his ill health to justify stifling his presentation of his powerful defense case," said Krsljanin.

CHANGING THE RULES

The ICTY opened the prosecution case in February 2002 after a year of preparation. The well-funded and staffed court set its own rules for the proceedings. It allowed Milosevic to represent himself, as he insisted.

At that time, the ICTY and the media presented the Milosevic case as "the trial of the century." That's when the prosecution hoped to use it as a show trial to convict the Yugoslav leader and blame him and the entire Serb people for the wars in the Balkans.

Within the first month, however, Milosevic had so ably handled his political and legal presentation, and had so effectively cross-examined hostile witnesses, that many reporters had to admit the case against the Serb leader was weak to non-existent. Publicity on the case was damaging NATO's justification for the war.

Throughout the two years of prosecution that ended last February, President Milosevic was plagued by high blood pressure and a heart ailment. Dozens of doctors pleaded for a more humane treatment of the president. The court delayed proceedings, but refused to release him from the harsh prison conditions or give him the medical care of his choice.

Though prosecutors took a year to prepare their case and two to present it, the ICTY allowed Milosevic only 90 days to prepare his defense and was to allow only 150 days for him to present it. Any time there is a delay for his health, the court refuses to allow him access to any papers or books or to interview potential witnesses at leisure. He lost 51 of the 90 days preparation when he complained of bad health.

As part of his defense case, Milosevic intended to call U.S. President Bill Clinton, British Prime Minister Tony Blair and other NATO leaders as witnesses so he could charge them for the war crimes NATO committed against Yugoslavia.

He also planned to call a number of political analysts and activists who have written, spoken and organized against U.S. and NATO intervention in the Balkans. Some of these potential witnesses participated in the Peoples Tribunal on Yugoslavia organized by the International Action Center (IAC) in 1999-2000.

Faced with the embarrassment of a powerful political exposure of NATO and U.S. leaders, the ICTY, like a schoolyard bully who keeps getting beaten at his own game, decided to change the rules and refuse to allow Milosevic to defend himself.

One potential witness was Sara Flounders, a co-director of the IAC and an editor of the IAC book, "Hidden Agenda: the U.S.-NATO Takeover of Yugoslavia." Flounders was scheduled to testify early. She met with Milosevic in The Hague on June 28.

Flounders said that "The attempt to remove President Milosevic as his own attorney is an admission of his innocence of the war crimes charges and of U.S. and NATO guilt in planning, executing and carrying out a 10-year war that broke up a strong and successful Yugoslav Federation into a half-dozen weak colonies and neo-colonies subservient to the United States and Western Europe.

(There's no lack of information available - Google!)
