(Columbus, March 10, 2006) J.C. Watts, former Oklahoma Congressman and national Republican leader, added his personal endorsement to Ken Blackwells gubernatorial campaign today.
Watts endorsed Blackwell, saying, Ken is a true conservative, who will protect the family and the taxpayer in everything he does as Governor. And, as a personal friend, I know Ken doesnt just talk the talk, he walks the walk. He is a good man whose faith guides his every action and speaks the truth without reservation.
We can count on Ken to be a strong leader who will move Ohio forward. He will be a great Governor for Ohio, and a leader for the National Republican Party as well.
Blackwell responded by thanking Watts for his endorsement saying, J.C. has been my friend and a co-advocate for conservative values for years, and I am grateful for his sincere support. I look forward to working with him on this campaign, and on many others to elect Republicans to state and local offices across Ohio.
Watts is Chairman of GOPAC, the national grassroots support organization for state and local Republican candidates, and a former four term Congressman from Oklahoma and Chair of the House Republican Conference, the fourth-highest ranking member of the House Republican leadership.
Blackwell is the clear leader for the GOP nomination, receiving support from 40 out of 54 county organizations that responded to a January, 2006 Ohio Republican Party survey. The Secretary of State also enjoys a ten per cent lead over GOP rival Jim Petro in an independent Ohio Republican Party poll, reported the highest GOP fundraising totals in the last campaign finance period and has an organization with more than 12,000 grassroots supporters statewide.
Blackwell for Governor Ping!
I've always liked J.C. Watts. One of the true bretheren.
Yep, and we've really missed having him in the House. If only there were more men like J.C. Watts..... Go Blackwell!
Columbus)- The Ohio Right to Life Political Action Committee has endorsed Jim Petro in the Republican primary for Ohio Governor. The Ohio Right to Life organizations endorsement for the gubernatorial primary was a dual endorsement.
...
Jim Petro enjoys the support of nearly two-thirds of the Republican members of the Ohio General Assembly and has received endorsements from six County Republican parties: Franklin, Delaware, Morrow, Coshocton, Seneca and Cuyahoga. In addition, the Petro-Padgett campaign maintains a tremendous fundraising lead over Ken Blackwell and several recent polls have confirmed that Petro is the strongest candidate in the general election.
Petro is way too closely tied to Taft.
Just because the "boys club" in Columbus wants him, doesn't mean he's the best choice.
Petro is a proven success.
But why does Blackwell insist on running such a negative campaign against another Republican? If he's ahead by so much, and he's got great ideas everybody loves, why is he spending his money making false charges against his opponent?
And is it really a good image for an avowed conservative christian to be lying about his opponent just to get elected? What happened to "not bear false witness"?
There's nothing false about it. Petro has scandals of his own, and the GOP in Ohio is not highly regarded, both because of scandals and their RINOish nature. Blackwell is different. His nose is clean, and he's a real conservative in the mold of Ronald Reagan.
I do agree Blackwell's first ads should not have been negative. However, he has to distance himself from the GOP to appeal to independent voters who generally lean at least a bit to the right, but aren't at all happy with the Ohio GOP thanks to Taft (and Petro, by association.) Blackwell has to show himself as above all of them.
Also, you say Petro's a proven success. So is Blackwell! Do you forget he's won statewide elections in Ohio already as well? He is Secretary of State after all.
Blackwell was Roger Hedgecock's room mate in college. Roger is a frequent substitue on Rush Limbaugh's show. Roger had had Ken on his local radio show by phone several times.
I hope the people of Ohio are smart enough to vote for Ken Blackwell.
In 2008 we will crush the rat with an Allen/Blackwell ticket. It would bring us to, or slightly past, the magic number of 18% across the nation, Black votes.
When we get 18%, the rat will have to sell his hash pipes to pay the rent.
If by "proven success" you mean that he's shown he has the ability to use his political office to inflict damage on those who do not financially contribute to his campaign you'd be correct. If you mean it in any other sense you're wrong.
Petro will not win the nomination and it's long past time that he should have gracefully bowed out. Not only is he corrupt but he's also not conservative, he's learned too well from his boss taft to be even a poor governor.
That is what the Petro camp tells us - over and over - but out here in Ohio's small towns everyone is talking about BLACKWELL !!!! If Blackwell was not running I'd go with Petro, but when I compare the two I have to go with the true conservative who can win and win big in Ohio AND nationally. I'd LOVE to see Petro challenge DeWine or Voinovich - who are both embarrassments to the Buckeye State. Petro would also have to distance himself from Taft who was a HUGE joke on this state. Just because his grandpa was a president....doesn't mean Taft is good. We got rid of the monarchy a long time ago.
I am proudly displaying a Blackwell bumper sticker on my car!
Pssst - You are being negative.
I've signed up for a yard sign when they get some here.
Blackwell for Governor Ping!
It is true that some republicans in Ohio are wary of Blackwell because he is willing to throw the entire party overboard to save himself.
There are only a few corrupt people in the republican party in Ohio, and the guys who are working their butts off to keep control of the state are pretty upset at how much harder Blackwell is making their job.
Also they are disturbed by the national people running into the state making inaccurate attacks on Petro.
Ken Blackwell is a proven success.
And he's a conservative.
Jim Petro is a proven part of the Taft-DeWine-Voinovich Ohio political establishment.
Can you provide a link to your posts? If the ORTLPAC has endorsed Petro over Blackwell, then I have some letters to write and phone calls to make.
How is it you know there are "few corrupt people in the republican party in Ohio"?
Just curious..........
