Feingold Draws Little Support for Censure

By LAURIE KELLMAN, Associated Press Writer 18 minutes ago

Democrats distanced themselves Monday from Wisconsin Sen. Russell Feingold's effort to censure President Bush over domestic spying.

The White House hit back at the same time, Vice President Dick Cheney telling a fundraiser in Feingold's home state that the resolution was an "outrageous proposition."

As the crowd in De Pere, Wis., booed Feingold's effort, Cheney said, "Don't hold back."

Feingold's fellow Democrats did just that Monday, with several saying they wanted first to see the Senate Intelligence Committee finish an investigation of the warrantless wiretapping program that Bush authorized as part of his war on terrorism.

Asked at a news conference whether he would vote for the censure resolution, Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada declined to endorse it and said he hadn't read it.

Sen. Joe Lieberman, D-Conn., said he had not read it either and wasn't inclined simply to scold the president.

"I'd prefer to see us solve the problem," Lieberman told reporters.

Across the Capitol, reaction was similar. Feingold's resolution drew empathy but no outright support from Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi.

my understanding is that only Reid (because he wanted to read it well before voting) and Lieberman, who isn't a Dem anyway are the only ones who wouldn't back it.

Frist tried to bring it up for a vote, and every time he did DemocRATS objected and wouldn't let there be a vote.

Another "Murtha" moment for the dems - like when they had the vote on "let's withdraw our troops immediately." That was a shining moment for the DUmmies, too. BWAHAHAHA!

You are so right... The Dems are delusional and truly hate the President more then the enemy that we are fighting. If they ever do regain control in the House they will vote on party lines to impeach him and they will all stick together on it an impeachment in the middle of this war would send such a strong message of weakness to our enemies we could not recover.

If anyone thinks the Dims won't go this route (or Impeachment in the House) if they win back Congress, they're deluding themselves.

Then maybe the Repubs ought to get busy reminding the American people just why record spending and wide open borders are a good thing.

If we Republicans had any balls, we would vote to censure *Feingold* for endangering our national security with this nonsense.

We are at war with a dangerous enemy, and this clown wants to tie our hands?

But where would he get the military?

Venezuela? They would have to because 90% of our military hates them.

Thanks... so I guess the challenge in court was not successful to throw McCain-Feingold Act out on its ear? Another legacy of left-wing activist courts taking away our liberties while do all they can to advance the rights & liberties of terrorists and illegal immigrants. Incredible!

Well, well. See the below thread for what we've been discussing. Now the WSJ puts in their 2 cents worth.

"I will NOT watch that oaf Morris tell us that Bush is lazy and Clinton was a hard worker! How asinine!"

I don't get how Bush can be considered lazy. On the other hand, Clinton did work very hard and keeping himself and everyone in his administration out of jail.

"they desperately want to avenge the Impeachment of the BJ Clinton."

BINGO. All of the "Bush's Fault" is revenge for Clinton's impeachment.

In 1998, WI had a chance to elect Marc Neumann (Spell?)over Feingold, but instead, many people who are drawn to this site sat out in 1998 for no good reason, other than the GOP didn't push impeachment hard enough. Now look at what many "conservatives" who look for any excuse to sit out (oh look! a bi-racial gay couple is walking down the street! We must vote for Buchanan as a result!)have wrought. If they had actually voted in 1998 and 2000 (sit out to protest a DUI?!? C'mon! Like the same bible thumpers who praise W's conversion didn't already know he was a lush in the 1970s), Feingold, Boxer, Pryor, Schumer, Bayh, Clinton, Baucus, Reid and Nelson (both NE and FL) would not be in the Senate. But, I guess a protest vote or sitting out to protest some unknown offense by the GOP is better than letting the above named dirtballs have a free ride to re-election.
