Document: Afghani Taliban Consul Spoke of a Relationship Between Iraq and Bin Laden See Translation
Pentagon: Pre-War Iraq documents ^ | March/16/06 | jveritas

Posted on 03/16/2006 7:44:29 AM PST by jveritas

The documents of pre-war Iraq were published this morning on the Pentagon website, I did a quick search and I found a very interesting document written in Arabic and not yet translated to English. I did the translation and I found the following:

This document is a letter written by a member of Saddam Intelligence apparatus (Al Mukabarat) on 9/15/2001 (shortly after 9/11/2001) where he addressed it to someone higher up and he wrote about a conversation between an Iraqi intelligence source and a Taliban Afghani Consul. In the conversation the Afghani Consul spoke of a relationship between Iraq and Osama Bin Laden prior to 9/11/2001, and that the United States was aware of such a relationship and that there is a potential of US strikes against Iraq and Afghanistan if the destructive operations in the US (most probably he is referring to 9/11 attacks) were proven to be connected to Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban.

Below is a translation from Arabic to English of CMPC-2003-001488 document that was posted on Pentagon Website regarding the pre-war Iraq documents. (http://fmso.leavenworth.army.mil/products-docex.htm#iraq).

Text of the document in English translated from Arabic.

In the Name of God the Merciful

Presidency of the Republic

Intelligence Apparatus

To the respectful Mr. M.A.M

Subject: Information

Our source in Afghanistan No 11002 (for information about him see attachment 1) provided us with information that that Afghani Consul Ahmad Dahestani (for information about him see attachment 2) told him the following:

1. That Osama Bin Laden and the Taliban in Afghanistan are in contact with Iraq and it that previously a group from Taliban and Osama Bin Laden group visited Iraq.

2. That America has proof that the government of Iraq and Osama Bin Laden group have shown cooperation to hit target within America.

3. That in case it is proven the involvement of Osama Bin Laden group and the Taliban in these destructive operations it is possible that American will conduct strikes in Iraq and Afghanistan.

4. That the Afghani Consul heard about the subject of Iraq relation with Osama Bin Laden group during his stay in Iran.

5. In light of this we suggest to write to the Commission of the above information.

Please view… Yours… With regards

No real idea, not sure they relate to the massacres....

I think the problem has always been limited resources....

Well, since he isn't dead yet, I'm sure we can get public confirmation that the docs are real.

At least once a week I see a letter to the editor in our local, small newspaper that Bush lied about the Iraq/AQ connections.

Same where I live. The left is very active, very emotional against Bush.

I agree with you: we need to be active too.

You would think so for those from this planet!

By the way just viewed a C-Span video on Presidential War Powers ,.....damn good discussion, rebroadcasts at 12:05 ET , 9:05 PST....just caught the last of it....hope they show it more over the weekend, ....originated with the Brookings Institute today, Stuart Taylor moderating....had a ex Clinton twit...that I strongly disagree with, but other three members of the panel were excellent.

Discussion on Padilla, moussaoui,....NSA, etc....just excellent!

"The US Government has made no determination regarding the authenticity of the documents, validity or factual accuracy of the information contained therein, or the quality of any translations, when available." "You are wasting your time unless your goal is self gratification, that quote alone means these documents arent worth the bandwidth as far as proving anything goes." You seem confused. The US government says they made no determination. They did not say they made a negative determination.

"These docs were posted without translations knowing there were many out there able to translate them much quicker than our government...this is great!!!!!!!!"

BINGO. I don't think this document dump was done to help polls so much as it was done to expedite translations. That is helpful to the USA cause either way.

"I dont know if this is people being naive or just wishful thinking but take a step back and consider what you're looking at with these docs. For all their other faults our intel and military services have been busting their butts for past 3 years to vindicate the pre-war claims. Do you really think they couldnt find the gold nugget and you guys hit it on the first try? You're being played, its just a matter of them dumping a load of fuzzy, unsourced junk on a breathless throng. A quick and cheap way to re-sell the war argument to those most predisposed to believing it. Of course, of course the CIA, the Whitehouse and the DOD are leaving it to freepers to determine this crucial piece of the Iraq puzzle. Nothing doing, its just chum for the faithful with pre-amble that says "We cant vouch for this". Good luck re-writing history with that."

HAHAHAHAHAHAHA. What are you afraid of. If these documents are, as you say, unverified then the translations could have gone either way. You seem to imply above that they only could be translated one way. If that was the case, then you believe that they were translated and verified and authenticated, but in an earlier reply, you insisted that could not be. Which way is it?

Delusions run amok,

Yes you're 100% correct, theres solid evidence in there and Uncle Sam is trusting the "blogosphere" to find it! Maybe you guys could keep a wiki on it, oh this is the stuff of a serious investigation, take that Iraq Survey Group! This isnt Dan Rather and the typewriter, this is unsourced stuff thats just as likely to be from Curveball or Chalabi as it is from Saddam.

If you follow these boards you have a reasonable sense of how politics work, if the Whitehouse could lay its hands on bonafide evidence like you claim to be finding it would a be a true "Go tell it on the Mountain" moment. If they had solid proof Bush would deliver it loud and clear in a nationaly televised address.

Iraq Survey Group

The ISG issued some pretty damning reports on Saddam and WMDs. The 911 Commission Report did the same, even regarding Saddam and Al Qaeda and related groups. Nothing came of that and I doubt much will come of this either. It is just not presented in a way that is interesting to the Average Joe.

You are a true Patriot. Thank you for your service in this. I am reading Gen. Saras book and he tells of the Al Mukabarat which Saddamn was the head of for the previous dictator. Very scary bunch who murdered at the drop of a hat.

Thank you Bray. When I lived in Lebanon I saw the horrors of the Syrian “Moukhabarat” and it was very much similar in behavior to the Iraqi “Moukhabarat”. Thanks the Lord, Lebanon is now free from the Syrian occupation and a lot of credit for Lebanon freedom should be attributed to President Bush leadership because he greatly pressured the Syrian Baath terrorist regime to ends its 30 years occupation to Lebanon. There are still some Syrian Moukhabarat agents in Lebanon working on destabilizing the country but they are not going to succeed.

I do not think Drudge is interested. Yesterday, he did post the ABCnews article regarding these documents, but here on FR we were 24 hours ahead of ABCnews :)

I never said that and you know it. Why don't you respond to what I did say rather than trying to put words in my mouth.

Saddam or any half wit dictator is not going to have a record of anything that says definitavely what he is doing ..What you have here is the mountain, not a piece of it ....Had this been the record of Richard Nixon and not Saddam the Left would have tried, convicted and fried him based on this evidence...The same left is convinced that there is no "Proof" of anything regarding Saddam no matter what is out there
