Every 20 years or so, we have to give amnesty to the illegals. We did it in the 60s, the 80s, the 00s, etc.

It seems that unless we have a way to bring in legal foreign workers, we will continue to deal with this issue.

You know what's gets me? It's the guest-worker thing. When Washington condescendingly looks down at Americans and say that they're unable to fill the jobs currently done by illegals. Good News, Bad News. Right now there is just not that super-majority that will eliminate amnesty (or other name for it) so compromise is a must to get the borders sealed for starters.

I'd have to see the details but elements of this as presented here sound reasonable to me and better than the status quo of doing nothing. I'd give them a stiffer fine. Rounding them up and deporting them is more preferable but that's not ever going to happen. Why couldn't our guys propose a stiffer version of this? Why are they gathering around an Edward Kennedy proposal? Bizarre.
