The hubby is 39 years old, but he is an high-level official at Communications Dept. of Presidential Office. He is at level-3, which is impossible to achieve at this age, if he followed normal civil servant track. He was one of those political appointees with little experience for government work or any "real" work. He has been an political operative for quite a while. He was a member of Chondaehyop, militant (pro-North) leftwing student organization. He is a typical pinko 386-activist. A rigid ideologue who shows no tolerance to views other than his own. His wife is of a same kind. She worked at the ruling party headquarter. They could be called a power couple. These people catapulted overnight to a center of political power. They have not been handling themselves well. It is like some teenage punks got hold of machine guns. They are so taken by the power they wield that they have trouble controling themselves.

386-ers, those of his generation (between mid 30's and early 40's), are know in S. Korean society for complete intolerance, black/white world view, and blinding rage when they cannot get their way. If you get into argument with them, they usually blew up. Unlimited sense of sanctimony and self-righteousness. Their ends completely justify their means.

As such, many are ticking timebombs. This couple must be such a case. The hubby was reportedly having an affair. They fought. They drove out to cool down. However, a fight broke out again. This time, the wife yelled, "I will kill you." In response, he took out his necktie and strangle her with it, according to his confession to police. A pretty heady stuff for a presidential aide.

Imagine that, during a Clinton admin, some aide in Whitehouse had nasty fight with his wife over his affair, then strangled her with a necktie, and were caught later by police. Freerepublic must have had thread over it running for many days.

There are many nutballs in the seat of power in S. Korea these days. They may have not yet strangled anybody with their necktie, but their mentality disturbs many, as shown in this murder. A country's helm in the hands of emotionally unbalanced kooks. It is not boring, but it is not pleasant either.

It sounds like you have more familiarity with these folks than you might otherwise prefer.

Be safe and thank you.

Nope. Can't imagine anything like that happening in the Clinton White House.

Sounds like a typical Taiwanese politician.

I cannot agree with your description of those people as "pinko". Red, Stalinist Red, Red as Hell.
