Quote of the Day: THE PRESIDENT: Carl.

Q Thank you, sir. On the subject of the terrorist surveillance program --

THE PRESIDENT: Yes.

Q -- not to change the tone from all this emphasis on bipartisanship, but there have been now three sponsors to a measure to censure you for the implementation of that program. The primary sponsor, Russ Feingold, has suggested that impeachment is not out of the question. And on Sunday, the number two Democrat in the Senate refused to rule that out pending an investigation. What, sir, do you think the impact of the discussion of impeachment and censure does to you and this office, and to the nation during a time of war, and in the context of the election?

THE PRESIDENT: I think during these difficult times -- and they are difficult when we're at war -- the American people expect there to be a honest and open debate without needless partisanship. And that's how I view it. I did notice that nobody from the Democrat Party has actually stood up and called for getting rid of the terrorist surveillance program. You know, if that's what they believe, if people in the party believe that, then they ought to stand up and say it. They ought to stand up and say the tools we're using to protect the American people shouldn't be used. They ought to take their message to the people and say, vote for me, I promise we're not going to have a terrorist surveillance program. That's what they ought to be doing. That's part of what is an open and honest debate.

I did notice that, at one point in time, they didn't think the Patriot Act ought to be reauthorized -- "they" being at least the Minority Leader in the Senate. He openly said, as I understand -- I don't want to misquote him -- something along the lines that, "We killed the Patriot Act." And if that's what the party believes, they ought to go around the country saying we shouldn't give the people on the front line of protecting us the tools necessary to do so. That's a debate I think the country ought to have.

Hi Ohio, I saw part of the exchange with Helen Troll on Brit. He was really very good today. He should do more of these pressers. HE is his own best spokesman.

Thanks for posting.

Thank you for the quotes from the President's press conference. You can't find this stuff on MSM, or even PBS' longer coverage. The only place I've heard the classic interchange with Helen Thomas is on conservative radio talk shows.

Thank you so much Ohio! What a huge Dose today! You did very well in your choice of photo of the day! I can't imagine having to choose today.

God bless our President! I just finished watching the presser. He was fabulous...knowledgeable, forceful and animated. Gotta love it!

I was right. The pic they had of the Pres. on my home page MSM (I don't know how to change it) showed the Pres. with very red-rimmed eyes making him look sinister. I knew they had foto-shopped it; now confirmed from first three-four pics on this thread.

Lots and lots of expressive pictures of our feisty President today.

LOVE our feisty president, hopefully it's a sign of continuing things to come. He needs to get out there each day and just let the press, the liberals and weak-kneed republicans have it!

Wow - ohioWfan. You sure were busy yesterday!

Thanks so much for your hard work. The photos from the press conference were terrific - I listened but couldn't watch so it was great to see the pics. It was great to see W go after the press corps and the loyal (a-hem) opposition, too. Hee-hee.

Loved the pics of the Vice President Cheney - bigtime. And then there's Barney tip-toeing through the tulips. Too darn cute!

This is so good it needs to go around another time or two, so bttt!

Cheers - Dinah

Hi!

Thanks for the Dose.

I was bad. I snuck out of work early yesterday so I could watch the rebroadcast of the presser. I know the President has other things to do, but I wish he could do a weekly prime time press conference. MUCH more entertaining than most of what's on TV.

Man, he was on fire.
