300 win mag., 200 grain.agreed...a nice fat round for a nice fat animal...but a friend who moved to Maine 20 years ago got a coveted tag for moose and went out with his Marlin 336 lever gun in the anemic .35 Remington caliber. 1 shot at 100yds and it was dinner and a sizable hatrack too.

IIRC a line crew was stringing several miles of new wire. It was rut season and the moose noticed the wire moving as the crew took up the slack several miles away. He thought it was another male moose and charged, tangling his antlers. The crew noticed an unusual drag on the line, went to investigate and found Mr Moose hanging out.

A friend of mine worked as a chef for one of these dude ranches outside Jackson Hole, WY. They do the whole bit, trail riding with horses and "Cookie" goes ahead and cooks up a fabulous meal for the guests ready when they arrive after a hard day on horseback.
On one particular occasion he was serving up his fare in one of those white canvas tents because it was pretty cool out that night. Just as his rather well-to-do city folk guests were sitting down to their evening meal a huge bull moose stuck his head in the back door of the tent and proceeded to rip the tent, table and dinner to shreds. The whole thing was caught on tape by one of the ranch hands. It's hilarious!
