Coop, this may come in handy for anyone who asks about the location of the district.

there is good news: Governor Ed Rendell is not particularly popular. There is bad news: Senator Rick Santorum is not popular.
Are these races expected to incluence the Congressional race?

No gerrymandering there; no sirree that looks completely normal.

12th District Election Results:
2004
John Murtha (D)- 100%
Unopposed
2002
John Murtha (D)- 73%
Bill Choby (R)- 27%
2000
John Murtha (D)- 71%
Bill Choby (R)- 28%
James N. ONeil (Ref)- 2%
Closest Race Ever (1974)
John Murtha (D)- 58%
Harry Fox (R)- 42%
His closest race ever was in 1974, which was also his first race. However, in 1972, a Republican won with over 56% of the vote. The seat had previously been Republican since 1943 before the election of John Murtha. Since 1974, only once has a Republican broke 40% against him, and that was in 1980, during the Reagan Revolution. Even in 1994, Bill Choby (who has run against him at least 4 times), mustered only 38%. He is going to be a tough incumbent to beat, espeically since this district has been gerrymandered like crazy. I hope Ms. Irey can do it.
