What has been bothering me is these little girls have been handed over to their father's father.

The only thing that would justify a shooting in the back would be if he was abusing the daughters, or if he had been beating the wife. The police say they know what the motive was, but they will not release the information. I suspect the child abuse charge will be her "reason". I must say that if I were on the jury and that was her reason, I would not convict.

That collection of known offenders was compiled by a protestant. Who knows how many criminals are being protected by various protestant denominations.

"We would be naïve and dishonest were we to say this is a Roman Catholic problem and has nothing to do with us because we have married and female priests in our church. Sin and abusive behavior know no ecclesial or other boundaries."
Rt. Rev. William Persell, Bishop of the Episcopal Diocese of Chicago, Good Friday Sermon, 2002.

You know, I thought the same thing when I heard this. The problem is that the paternal grandparents are going to have a signigicant advantage in coaching these kids as to what they say and don't say. The grandparents will want to protect the reputation of their son at all cost. I hope that the authorites got a statement from the children before placing them with the grandparents, not to mention counseling. Unless there is something the public does not know, the judge made a critical error in not placing these kids in a temporary foster home until this can be sorted out.

Actually, it was the look in the eyes of the middle child that caught my attention.

For me, it was the endless speculation on these threads ...

We're definitely on the same page in this case.

Prediction: I suspect the same thing, sitting here in Tennessee as I type this.

I have said this before, and I'll say it once more: In certain cultures it is okay to rape your daughter, granddaughter, nieces, and daughter-in-laws; but don't drink alcoholic beverages, you'll go to HELL for that!!!

I know this from personal experience with my first husband's family. The meanest danged people I ever encountered were the Bible thumpers -- and they ALL were covering up a guilty conscience.

The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation has refused to discuss a motive, but said investigators did not believe it was because of infidelity. The agency refused comment on whether Winkler had been accused of domestic abuse. Court papers offered no hint on a motive.

In the absence of any evidence, I prefer to wait and see.

At this point, just about any reason is as plausable as any other. I am firmly in favor of removing child molesters from the gene pool, but as a man with a daughter I resent the assumption that he is one because his sweet looking wife killed him.

Many, many years ago I got pretty involved with an attractive woman that did a very good job of hiding the fact that she was wacko. As a matter of fact, years later she ruined her ex husband (along with his wife's career as a teacher) by painting him as a child molester. Which was later proved to be completely false. Much too late for him.

Wait and see how this plays out.

Sharp as an orange you are. And obviously you have never been to Tennessee. She WILL get the death penalty. Sorry to disappoint.

When this story broke I saw this picture of the family and thought "What a sad face the little girl in front of the baby has.

The little girl in front of her father may have a smile on her face, but it seems as if she is pulling away from his hand and her entire body is tense.

On another blog (Huffcrimeblog) it has been stated that the photo
was taken at a funeral for Matt's grandfather and
it was probably the first funeral that the children attended.

There would be mixed emotions.

It would explain it...

I have a picture of my brother, sister and me. Brother & sister have smiles as sweet as molasses. I have a look clearly showing I am anything but happy. I remember that picture--I had just been scolded for something, maybe talking back.

As for the oldest girl being tense-I am in the middle of resolving issues with a sister and her husband. A betrayal of sorts. I have tried my best to keep my reaction to it on the high road. The problem is other family members refuse to acknowledge the actions of my sister and her husband have affected my family in the worst possible way. Instead it is a "get over it" attitude.

The point being I am very much aware I have may have projected my feelings of separation into that picture. Not fair by any stretch of the imagination, but human.

What happened in that family is what it is and sadly will play out in front of the entire country. Those girls need our prayers.
