Michael Schiavo Caught in Serious Distortion of Truth on NBC Interview

By John-Henry Westen

CLEARWATER, FLA., March 24, 2006 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Michael Schiavo, who ordered doctors to withhold food and water from his severely disabled wife Terri until she died, and his current wife Jodi were interviewed by NBC's Matt Lauer. Those exclusive interviews based on Schiavo's upcoming book "Terri: The Truth," are to be broadcast on "Dateline," Sunday, March 26 at 7 p.m.. Ironically, despite claiming to speak about 'the truth' concerning Terri, NBC's Lauer catches Schiavo in a serious distortion of truth as the interview begins.

In the interview, Michael responds to Lauer asking why he would not just divorce Terri - since he was already living with another woman with whom he had fathered children - leaving Terri with her own parents who were begging to be allowed to care for her. Michael answered, "When you sit in a courtroom and you hear her father say I'll cut her arms and her legs off, just to keep her alive, why would I want to put their daughter back in their care if he's gonna (sic) do that to her."

At this point Lauer interjects to say, "Let's make sure we understand that statement," with Schiavo trying to cut him off all the while, he adds, "I think the statement was, if she were to develop gangrene, and had to have limbs amputated, he would do that and okay that as long as he could still have her alive. That's a little different than the way you . . ." At this point Schiavo, who had been interrupting Lauer the whole way through his clarification interrupts definitively cutting off Lauer and changing the subject.

The interview is one sided, in that it presents only Michael's point of view and ends with Michael relating through his tears his last moments with Terri, going so far as to say, "She's up there praising me right now... and saying thank you."

Lauer notes that the book is not about honouring Terri, but about settling some scores. To which Schiavo responds, "Oh yes it does."

At another point in the interview, Lauer asks, "People have often asked. Michael why didn't you divorce Terri, you were living with Jodi." Schiavo replies, "Why do I have to divorce Terri? Terri wasn't like a football- an inanimate object you pass back and forth. She was my wife. You mean because your wife gets sick, do you give her back?"

Asked about his decision to remove Terri's feeding tube despite the pleas of Americans, groups from around the world and even the Vatican, Schiavo said, "Yeah, well I guess when it all boiled down, I couldn't understand why these people were so passionate about my life... People are allowed to die every day. Feeding tubes are removed every day."

Schiavo will appear live on "Today," Monday, March 27, and with Jodi on Tuesday, March 28.

I do understand that people are sick of the story, but...

It is not the fact that Terri is dead, it is that others will try to do the same thing to their LOVED ONES...

There are two books coming out about Terri - which is why this is news - one by her parents and siblings and the one by her husband.

It is just a case of a Good Ol' Boy stacked deck. The attorney Felos was Chairman of the Hospice one year before Terri was admitted to that Hospice. He stepped down as Chairman of the Board of the Hospice, and then got Terri admitted and then proceeded with trying to execute her - which he successfully did in 2005.

A number of the County Board of Supervisors of Pinellas County were on the Board of Directors of the Hospice...

Sort of like lynching an African American in the deep South in the 1920s/1930s/1940s/1950s...

Schiavo is the one who keeps himself in the public eye. Please tell him to let it go and get out of our faces.

Sorry, WhiteGuy - it's not! It's still going on. Besides, how can WE let it go when Michael won't????

MIkey's a real drama queen. In this article quotes from his silly book which will end up in the clearance bins at a book store near you.

You forgot one thing - justice is blind in this case - Judge Greer was legally blind...

But having a clearly written Living Will would take care of that - specifying that you would be allowed to die rather than take extreme measures for you to continue living.

There was nothing in writing about Terri, and the fact that Michael only had two kids by his lover while he was still married to Terri and was her Legal Guardian makes this case suspicious...

It was a modern day lynching with a wink and a nod by all the good old boys and gals in Florida. Lots of Republicans on board for the torture death of Terri. It all goes back to Judge Greer and the Sembler family. The Bushes are loyal to their friends, loyal to a fault.

Terri was not their friend so she was not rescued.

You mean because your wife gets sick, do you give her back?"

no, of course not. you carry out the most pathetic assassination in the history of the human race -- well, the second most pathetic, while sleeping with your new squeeze.

this poor deranged psychopath, partnering with the death industry and pro-death zealots, used the legal system to murder Terri Schiavo in slow, excruciating motion, while the world watched.

Just when you think you've seen it all. America is to be very ashamed of itself.

"She's up there praising me right now... and saying thank you."

Yeah, sure, whatever; if you say it mikey, it must be true. (The reason schiavo isn't "happy" is because he hasn't gotten his movie deal yet.)

I'd call him an irredeemable scumbag but it'd be an insult to bags of scum everywhere. Nothing....absolutely nothing bad enough can happen to this pile of human debris.

Being the caregiver for a brain injured spouse (my wife had brain trauma from a car accident as a kid, tumor as a teen and stroke as a young adult), I feel like I understand some of the pressures that were on everyone involved in this case. Although I thank God my wife is comparatively normal to what Terri was like. If there ever comes a time where a life or death decision has to be made, I pray God gives me the wisdom to make the right one that He would have me make, for my wife's sake and not for mine.

That being said, and understanding that Terri was not in any way terminal, I don't understand how a "death process" can be used on her that would be illegal for one to do to a dog.

Terri Schiavo’s Husband Re-Married in Catholic Church

By Gudrun Schultz

SAFETY HARBOUR, Florida, January 23, 2006 (LifeSiteNew.com) – Michael Schiavo, who had his disabled wife Terri killed last March by refusing her food and water, was re-married last Saturday in the Roman Catholic Church of Espiritu Santo in Florida.

Schiavo married Jodi Centonze. He had two children with her during the years he worked towards achieving Terri’s death.

More at the link.

Something that always irked me about mikey and his sycophants was their assumption that Terri had no life and therefore deserved death. Life is a funny thing and has strong resilience. For example, the story of Mike the headless chicken shows how tenacious life can really be (as long as a "loving, adulterous spouse" doesn't kill it off).

I don't know what to say about Mr. Schiavo and his motives. However, it is my understanding that the parents insisted that she was able to communicate and might get better and that was their motive for holding on.

When I saw the brain scan in Time magazine, it looked very, very bad. I had seen my husbands brain scan three years before he died of Alzheimer's by way of comparison.

After her death it is my understanding that an autopsy was done and the authorities determined that so much of her brain had turned to mush, that her parents' hopes were totally impossible.

So what? She wasn't dying. Her parents loved her and wanted to care for her. If she was so "far gone" then it wouldn't have mattered to her anyway, right?

Instead, they killed her in an awful, painful way.

Simple evil.

It is worth noting, given the recent episodes of South Park, that Clearwater is HQ for the Church of Scientology, it has great influence in the area and they have a less than charitable view towards the handicapped.
