Immigration rally in L.A. one of city's largest -- ever
CNN ^

LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Tens of thousands of immigrant rights advocates from across Southern California marched Saturday in protest of federal legislation that would build more walls along the U.S.-Mexico border and make helping illegal immigrants a crime.

The march followed rallies on Friday that drew throngs of protesters to major cities around the nation.

I've studied up plenty so cut your condescending tone. "Broke in" is a figure of speech. If you are an "immigrant" you have been approved, and are not here illegally.
Reporters and open border people love to use the word "immigrant" instead of "illegal alien."

Immigration rally in L.A. one of city's largest...

Sure it is, more proof that something has gotta be done about illegals and open borders!

Wrong. An "immigrant" that does not follow through on the requirements for citizenship within the proscribed time-frame, fails to notify of an address change, or a criminal conviction; becomes ILLEGAL. As they should. Even though they were approved from the get-go. It would appear that the Borax Queen has not met or sponsored any recent legal immigrants. And please verify that the 19th word on page 1 of your US Passport is "permit".

That's funny - if you only knew. I only understand the old-fashioned sense of the word and not know anyone who "overstayed." At any rate, although I find it bizarre and didn't know that is how things are interpreted (I also was enlightened tonight that "immigrants" do not necessarily need to learn English), my original point was about the words in this article:

...that would build more walls along the U.S.-Mexico border and make helping illegal immigrants a crime.

Saying the word "immigrants" here implies that at some point, they applied for paperwork? Not all 20 - 25 million people here illegally have/had visas or are considered "immigrants" - even by the definition you laid out, are they?

A van full of illegals just drove in my yard and cursed at my neighbors. I guess they were just doing obnoxious behavior that Americans wont.

After "Wilma" the tree cutting firm Asplundh was sent to our back yard by FPL to clear tree limbs from the power lines!
8 men showed up and not ONE could speak English, ages 20-40 and NOT from Florida!!
Their trucks were from out of State!!!

Technically that is true, but that latest count took place in 94. Can you imagine what it is now?

I pay close attention to the words that politicians use. Alien and immigrant mean two different things. There are illegal aliens, being foreign nationals that either overstayed a non-immigrant visa, or those aliens that never applied for or received the visa. Whether these aliens get off of a boat, airplane, Ski-Doo, bus, or automobile does not matter.

An illegal immigrant can be any person seeking citizenship. Not all aliens seek or desire US citizenship. An example of an illegal immigrant could be someone that enters the country and applies for asylum, or otherwise intends to remain. This is common for Honduran, Brazilian, and Ecuadorian illegal immigrants. Their governments make it difficult to impossible to petition to leave. We Americans do not understand this concept, because we do not have to ask to be able to leave our country. Let alone post a surety bond to guarantee that we will return to the country, or have a relative monitored and imprisoned. The freedom and rights that we enjoy, we take for granted that all people have.

OK - thanks! Everything I had read before about those words said something else, but I read your posts and looked at the US immigration Web site too. Appreciate the information. I watch for obfuscation in the press too.

I'm a first-generation American so I definitely know what you are talking about in the last part of the post.

This is just the Nonimmigrant category. The whole thing is not going to be solved by feel-good cliche's. If we are going to demand that our government uphold the law, we should have an idea of what we are demanding.

Imagine

Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us only sky
Imagine all the people
Living for today...

Imagine there's no countries
It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
And no religion too
Imagine all the people
Living life in peace...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

Imagine no possessions
I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one
