Eric Haney, a retired command sergeant major of the U.S. Army, was a founding member of Delta Force, the military's elite covert counter-terrorist unit.
Q: What's your assessment of the war in Iraq? A: Utter debacle. But it had to be from the very first.

There will be no such wars for the US in the future, since those wars cannot be fought against the US.
L
Loved his book, but I think his opinion is way off.
It's an interesting point about Franks.
But he, like a small fraternity of other ex-shooters hate to see how effective our guys are today....and they try and ride down the success our shooters are having today at every turn.
Pay him no attention. He doesn't deserve it. And lets be clear, Haney wouldn't have what it takes to be a D-Boy today with its current standards.
His foolish comments about Saddam not being a threat, civil war, and how Americans "dont care about Iraqi deaths" speak volumes about his intellect.
Being a founding member of Delta does not make him an automatic expert on global strategy.
One of my clients used to be the deputy directory of intelligence for NORAD. He admitted to me that he had never heard of al Qaeda or OBL until 9/11.
What he is, is a Shinsheki Sergeant Major....
Bill Clinton president....
Wesley Clark type of guy....
Sometimes it's just too easy.
He is entitled to his opinion, but he is still partisan.
I wonder why they got an old Sergeant Major? Guess they ran through the list of officers and didn't find what they wanted.
There are disagreements about Iraq. Chalaby said that no matter what was done, we would have to walk knee deep through the manure left by Saddam.
Saddam left behind tons of ordinance, millions of small arms, Baathist nutballs who felt entitled to rule, Islamicist nutballs who would do anything to damage the US, Kurds who had 10 years of freedom from the central government, and the Shia, who wanted vengence for years of opression and bad government.
Such a mix doesn't turn into Luxembourg overnight.
Our strategy was, from the first, to break Saddam's power, then convince the Shia to take part in the central government to protect themselves. Every terrorist attack causes greater motivation for the Shia to take control of their destiny. Every counter to the terrorist activity is greater motivation for the Sunni to throw out the terrorists from their communities. A slow process, but a necessary one.
In answer to the threads title question:
Haney is a frickin' pantywaist. That's who he is. Foxhole fag probably.
That's exactly what I was thinking!
Same amount of cred., it appears.
Wasnt he the goober who went on CNN every day saying the beltway sniper was a religious white guy gun nut who hated minorities?
He was wrong there too...whoda thunk it?
And then wrote a bestselling book praising Bush and Rumsfeld.
He's got the Flaming Liberal Hollywood "talking points" down pat anyway.
Are you so certain? Sure he, he donated to Kerry... but is that really surprising considering his opionions on Iraq. I would be more curious to know his past political leanings before passing judgment on his partisan leanings.
Sad but true, but their are plenty of people in the military that share his opinion, and not all of them are Democrats.
Only a yellow-dog Democrat could so completely ignore September 11, 2001...
What is it about Bush that makes so many otherwise intelligent people excrete out their facial orifice?
There was an opinion poll in my local rag today. This is where weekly, they choose 7-8 people off the street to answer a question of interest.
This week's question: "Would you agree to pay more in either gasoline or property taxes to see local roads repaired or upgraded?"
I sh*t you not - this was the first guy's answer: "No, I would like to see President Bush go to jail. I think he should be accountable for what he spent."
period. dot.
This freaking idiot votes!!! He should get STUPID tattooed on his forehead so that people don't have to guess any more.
So, guys like Eric Haney don't surprise me. I kept reading, and more STOOPID stuff kept coming out of Haney's mouth.
How embarrassing senility is!
(BTW, I went back and checked to make sure that "gasoline and property tax" idiot's name wasn't Haney...)
;-)
