I can follow your thinking, but I'll give you the hard facts about one of my grandfathers. He had 56 children, it was difficult for him to distribute his wealth and time amongst them.
Another grandfather (with one wife) trying with all his might, could only produce twelve. Which children do you think got the most time and resources?
In those days, children weren't made for love but for workhands on the farm! The times have surely changed. I was just showing that having an additaional parent "could" be a benefit if all factors were the same.

And children. Many wives are taken at a very young age. I even saw where one guy was married to a woman AND her daughter from a previous marriage.
Yeah, that just good clean American values at work.

There are many studies of ancient societies that show the benefits of polygamy in times of men shortages (like after war.)
Polygamy during times when male/female numbers are fairly even, leads to older men with the most resources having the most wives and children. This often leaves the young men without prospects of marraige and family...over time it can lead to societal unrest and warfare.
The pattern of polygamy leads to a dominance of DNA (genetic traits) of the most dominant men and can lead to inbreeding...often without the knowlege of the participants.

Exactly. If we are going to have same sex marriage, then there's no reason to not have polygamy. After all, the latter has a lot of historical precedent while the former has none. Furthermore, it's more difficult to build a Biblical case against polygamy than it is against same sex marriage.
With adultery a crime in only a few places (if any), I simply don't see how polygamy laws can actually be enforced.

It's also about running off young men so the "elders" will have first pick of the new crop of young misses. It's about dominance. It's about picking girls WAY too early and introducing them to polygamous sexual relationships. It's about satifying the sexual appetite and damaged ego of certain men.
My opinion, anyway.
