Here's my take on this:
Sounds like a good idea, but this is what I think (know) will happen:
You witness an employer hiring an illegal so you call;
ring ring
"ICE"
"Yes, I would like to report Mom and Pops Lawn Service for hiring illegal aliens"
"OK sir, thank you very much"
(insert sound of crickets churping)
REPORT: March 28, 2006
Restaurant: Brandon's Diner, Upland, CA
I spoke with the manager and told her I hope to keep eating there but I have to know their policy on hiring illegal aliens. They check the SS card and California ID. If they find out the docs are phony, they will terminate the person. According to this manager, in the time she has worked there, there has been only one case they found where the person could not prove they were here legally. That person was not hired.
If you see by my reports, I am calling businesses I patronize and asking for a guarantee that they do not hire illegal aliens. That may do more good. If enough people complain, however, about some local business, it should worth a story in the newspaper. The business will not want that to happen.
The IHOP in North Little Rock and the IHOP in Hot Springs are suspicious to me. They should be checked out.
They can ask for Green Cards at most any new home construction site here in Arkansas. Wait till lunch, when half a dozen are tail gating their lunch around a loaf of bread..
Course Tyson's chicken plant in Springdale Arkansas is the first place they need to check out.
Arkansas is a hot bed of Illegals, due to the welcome mat Huckabee laid out.
National I.D. perhaps?
"I have always suspected that the same is the case in most Chinese restaurants I go too."
Yes. There is a Chinese joint in Bellevue, WA catering to the computer executive crowd that has a cash register for show and puts cash into, and makes change from something looking like a cigar box.
I was told by a Seattle Gang Unit detective that The I-5 corridor between Vancouver, BC, Canada and Southern California is the favored route of Chinese illegals, smugglers, and gangs.
Chinese Tongs and Triads are well ensconsed in the Pacific NW.
I think there was a lawsuit filed against Tyson that went to the appellate level. I don't know where it is now.
You call or give me the phone number and I'll call. They need to be told that they will have two weeks to solve the problem or massive bad publicity and complaints are coming their way.
Oh, please. First, they are criminals. Hundreds of Americans have been killed by illegal aliens since September 11, 2001. Glenn Beck mentioned on his show today that illegals cost this country $55 BILLION per year. We could use that money elsewhere.
Are you going to call them?
It's becomming painfully obvious that the Senate isn't going to do anything. They're running scared on the issue, thinking that to offer a strict bill will turn away 'potential' voters.
They're probably right. But they fail to remember where their 'current' votes come from. And polls (I hate to use that word) show that most Americans are for a tough policy.
It also seems that what they're proposing relies on the Illegals to go along with the program (also true of business). But what's to prevent undocumented workers from ignoring the law (just as they are now) and carry on as before. We'd still be no closer to getting them out (or even insuring their compliance.
From that standpoint a boycott makes sense IMHO. Pressure on the businesses would obviously carry more weight than the proposals I've seen. But, for it to work, it would have to be widespread to have affect.
BTW, looking at your tagline, let me say that my ancestors arrived from Germany in 1854; all legally. They learned English, developed businesses, and made a life for themselves. I have NO problem with anyone wanting to do the same, regardless of where they come from. I only ask that they do so legally.
Once upon a time, Bill O'Reilly called for a boycott of France, which proved to be rather effective. Has he called for a boycott of MEXICO yet?
I will keep this in mind.
HOLY SHI}!

Obviously they are not going to tell you they are hiring illegals. But your call may start worrying them, especially if they start reading about this effort in the newspaper and if they think you might turn them in. Put them on notice that they need to verify social security numbers --- Verify SS#/name @ 1-800-772-6270.
Hmmm, I wonder if the banker has the same problem as he approves loans? If not, why not?
No. If we can run background checks for handgun purchases in under 10 minutes, we can run checks on Social Security cards and alien registration cards in the same amount of time.
The employer calls in SSN and/or the Alien Registration number and he gets a ya or nay.
A ya, means they matched up and they guy can work and a nay means the employers sends the guy away to get his docs fixed with SSA or ICE.
This should have its own thread.
