EXCERPT:

Much of the controversy centers on the man who has been pushing the lawsuit — County Commissioner Robert Vasquez. A former radio commentator who lost part of a leg in Vietnam, Vasquez, 57, has long been a provocative force in the immigration debate.

The grandson of legal Mexican immigrants, Vasquez was elected to the county commission in 2002 and soon sent the Mexican government a $2 million bill for services he said his county had provided to illegal immigrants. He has asked Idaho's governor to declare the county a disaster area because of illegal immigration and to grant it emergency funds. He has proposed unsuccessful legislation to the state Legislature that would deny welfare payments to illegal immigrants.

"For every dollar for an illegal alien, it's one less dollar in my constituents' pocket," said Vasquez, who is running for Congress.

In 2005, Vasquez heard about Howard Foster.

The Chicago-based lawyer has almost single-handedly spearheaded the use of RICO statutes as a tool against illegal immigration. A member of the Federation for American Immigration Reform, a group that advocates immigration restrictions, Foster took note when Congress toughened immigration laws in 1996 and amended the RICO statute to make knowing employment of illegal immigrants a violation.

"For the first time ever in the country, it became possible for a person to bring a private lawsuit against an employer ... for violating immigration laws," Foster said.

Just re-aim the CT I-95 Traffic Cam for exit 7 at Stamford (http://www.ct.gov/dot/cwp/view.asp?a=2354&Q=290520&dotNav=|) and you will see plenty of "Undocumented Workers" gathered in the official "No Hassle Zone"....your tax dollars at work, amigos!

There's a MAJOR catch-22 here. I'll use myself as an example. I own my own business and work alone. I have many clients who I suspect hire illegals. If I were to turn these people in to ICE, I would be stabbing myself in the back and potentially could lose my business in the process. One of the major reasons nothing has been done about this problem is the effect it will have (at least short term) on the economy of this country. Anyone have any ideas on this part of the equation?

We should borrow a page from the gun control/anti tobbacco lobby and file civil class action lawsuits in every state against every business that employs illegal aliens. Unlike, the leftist targets, our targets have openly violated federal law. Why wait for the Feds when we can do it for ourselves?

I understand your dilemma. I don't have an answer except that if everyone played by the rules, you wouldn't have a problem. We need to work toward the goal of stopping the cheaters who are getting an unfair business advantage by violating the law.

What would it cost to put a few lines of info onto billboards (info such as you provide in your #55 and the ICE free phone number). I'm thinking of billboards on major highways such as I-15 between S. CA and Las Vegas.

Think this would encourage non-FReepers to join the cause? Would this scare the employers of illegals enough to shape up?

Just because there might be a hiccup in the economy, is no reason to not fix the problem.

LA and San Diego too
Chinese are a very large problem with the illegals.
Not just South Americans all of them.
I have a chinese girlfriend who is the sweetest nurse, she waited 2 years to get her Visa. Illegals are just gate crashers and need to go

How about we boycott businesses that knowingly hire illegals? I do.

Putting the pertinent info on billboards might eliminate the "brown shirt" or "tattletale" phobia that many people have. It also would be safer (more anonymous) than putting a bumper sticker on your car with the number - that might be asking for trouble.

I am sure a National I.D. would not resolve this issue in total but I would be against it even if it did. You may have something though on a National alien database which includes only registered aliens. However even though such a database would not include any American names, the political constraints against such a database would still be considerable. Several years ago I was associated with Federal plans for the construction of a National endangered species database. The intense controvery involved in this plant and animal database indicates to me that any database containing people will elicite controversy that few politicians will be willing to tackle. But then I am, nor have I ever been, a politician. It may work.

I'm REALLY gonna have some fun with this!!!!!!!!

:)

:)

:)

The West end of the city where I work should be a ghost town in a week.

The following week these local businesses will either be out of business or employing Americans or LEGAL immigrants.

It really is hard to organize a boycott, but several individual incidents of putting pressure on a business may get the owner concerned. If you owned a business and someone called to warn you that he was looking to get you shut down, would it worry you? Especially if you were actually hiring illegals? This may be an opportunity for a legitimate business doing the right thing to damage a cheating competitor.
