This morning, President Bush announced from the Oval Office at the White House, the resignation of long time friend, and 5 year Chief of Staff, Andrew Card, and the appointment of Josh Bolten, director of the White House Office of Management and Budget, to that position. Later, following a Cabinet Meeting, the President made a statement in the Rose Garden, surrounded by Cabinet members, about the progress in the government of Iraq, and the commitment of his administration to work with their counterparts in Iraq in the future.
In news of significance to all conservatives, both Lyn Nofziger (81), Reagan press secretary, and Caspar Weinberger (88), Reagan's Secretary of Defense, died in the past 24 hours. Both men served with distinction and will be missed.

Yes, but I think Andy is needed elsewhere and it's time for someone else to lift the burden and carry it awhile. It's a tough job and he's done it extremely well. He's been a real Chief of Staff and not just a media front man and it has to wear on a man considerably.

Those sketches really are amazing!
(Do you mind my asking what medium you use to get things to show up on the Internet? My original sketches are much more detailed than anything I can get to show up when my drawings are scanned, so they don't look nearly as good here).
The 22nd Amendment limiting presidents to two terms has both its good and bad aspects. The worst flaw that it automatically turns any president into a lame duck and diminishes his power in his 2nd term.
The president becomes a convenient punching bag for every two-bit reporter and politician looking to score cheap points with his or her constituency, as well as for every three-bit politician who sees him or herself as the next president.
The 22nd happened to come along at the same time as television began training our populace to have shorter and shorter attention spans. So not only does TV overexpose modern presidents to constant publicity and carping from various quarters, but the public becomes tired of the president after around five or six years.
That's why every president since the 22nd was ratified has had a rocky 2nd term. If, at the same time the 22nd Amendment was being proposed and ratified, term limits for senators and representatives were also included, the original balance of power between the two branches would have been maintained.
You have got to be our most articulate poster, Wolfstar.

Thanks, Peach. That's so kind of you to say. I just have always loved to read, almost literally since about the age of three or four. I read constantly, and from a broad range of topics. So my head is like an overstuffed attic, LOL!

I just about choked when I saw the AP headlines that the President was getting rid of Card to lift his poll numbers.
It couldn't be more diametrically opposed to the truth if they tried. (Big surprise from the MSM.......not).
He has served well, and now it's someone else's turn.

A man from Illinois decided to write a book about churches around the country. He started by flying to San Francisco and working east from there. Going to a very large church, he began taking photographs and making notes.
He spotted a golden telephone on the vestibule wall and was intrigued with a sign which read "$10,000 a minute." Seeking out the pastor he asked about the phone. The pastor answered that this golden phone is, in fact, a direct line to Heaven and if he pays the price he can talk directly to God.
The man thanked the pastor and continued on his way. As he continued to visit churches in Denver, Des Moines, Dubuque, St. Louis, Chicago, even east to Gary and Raleigh, he found more phones, with the same sign, and got the same answer from each pastor.
Finally, he arrived in Wisconsin. Upon entering a church in Prairie du Chien he saw the usual golden telephone. But THIS time, the sign read "Calls: 25 cents!" Fascinated, he asked to talk to the pastor. "Pastor, I have been in cities all across the country and in each church, I have found this golden telephone and have been told it is a direct line to Heaven and that I could talk to God, but, in the other churches the cost was $10,000 a minute. Your sign reads 25 cents a call. Why?"
The pastor, smiling, replied, "Son, you're in Wisconsin now... This is God's country...it's a local call !"

I love to read too; it's my favorite hobby, even before FR. Sadly, it seems a lot of today's writers have the same capacity for good writing as Hollywood has for making interesting movies. That is to say, very little.
So I've been re-reading some older books and loving them.

Good evening, OWF. Thanks for the great photos tonight. I love the one of the Cabinet applauding Andy Card. He's done a remarkable job during one of the toughest periods in our history. I look forward to his book if and when he decides to write one.
