Boehner hints a back down on 'amnesty'
The Washington Times ^ | March 29, 2006 | Charles hurt

Posted on 03/29/2006 7:15:28 AM PST by surely_you_jest

House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

So are you suggesting that GM would be in the black-hiring new employees and turning a profit every quarter-if only they had staffed their assembly lines with illegal aliens working for sub-minimum wages, who didn't belong to labor unions?

"More illegals have come across the border with Bush at the helm than at any other time in our countries history. Bush has done jack sqwat."

That's not true.

What is true is that President Bush has improved our border security, both for stopping illegals as well as for detecting radiation.

"The president cited a 66 percent increase in border-security funding since he took office, along with a 42 percent increase in interior-enforcement spending and a total of 6 million illegal aliens caught and returned home." http://www.washingtontimes.com/functions/print.php?StoryID=20060326-123457-5749r

It's not "brazen" to tell employers to obey the law.

Uh I don't know about that, those laws turned GM from powerhouse to joke.

Can't be done unless we let 'em. But unfortunately too many have either remained silent or gone elsewhere. So kudos to 'em. They can't win with ideas, but they can win with subterfuge.

I agree, and give everyone under 50 a ss rebate, plus interest, those over can opt in. Then, completely dismantle SS. Phase it out.

I know that you resent the idea of people making laws that set limits on your actions. It's called the criminal mentality and you are a perfect example

Only to you could growing food or building buildings be "criminal".

"Okay, I take that as you will be applying for a vegetable picker or janitorial job tomorrow."

Between the ages of 14 and 22, I pulled tobacco, harvested Christmas trees, flipped burgers, was a bellhop at a resort and did construction work, among the various jobs I held before college graduation, and I was glad to have all of those jobs. I even cleaned my own toilet. People haven't changed that much since the 80s. What has changed is that there are overwhelming numbers of people, noncitizens, who will do that work while being paid off the books, who have no means of taxpayer identification, and there are employers who are willing to prostitute themselves and break the law right along with them to save a few bucks. And, these noncitizens are getting medical treatment at no charge. There are very few US citizens willing or even able to potentially go up against the IRS and state tax collectors, for a severly depressed wage, with no benefits whatsoever.

And you're cheering this corruption on, because there is some short term profit in doing so. There's short term profit in cutting corners in whatever you do, but it will eventually come back to haunt you. The same is true with this illegal immigration problem.

Professor George Borjas made precisely this point in a debate over the merits of mass immigration, which took place on Ben Wattenberg's "Think Tank" several years ago.

Yes, the landscapers he hired to tend his garden were paid higher wages-and thus, took a bigger chunk out of his paycheck-but they did just as competent a job as illegal aliens who are paid minimal wages and day laborers who essentially have no contractual rights in their relationship with their temporary employers.

Criminal is breaking the law. But I realize the concept that rules apply to you is beyond the ability of a sociopath to ever grasp.

That other people have rights and there are rules is something you will never understand.

Actually GM would be in the balck if they hadn't sucummbed to outside influences(uinons, their govt. lackeys) that hurt their production.

The basic same general outside influence you promote as an "expert".

Show me the disunity among people who believe Illegals should be deported.

When the average Joe gets home and turns on the TV to see a bunch of morons claiming that Los Angeles belongs to them, what do you think goes through his mind.

Illegal Immigration is one of the only issues that unites this country. Even my socialist neighbor wants to deport them.

Actually Southack..........I don't mean to pile on you....but I believe Sas is correct...I've seen some figures here on FR that were kinda astonishing regarding the numbers of illegals strolling across our borders since 911. I'll try to dig up the post where I saw the figures...

You've taken too many shots to your fragile and vacuous cranial cavity. You're getting giddy. Too giddy, John L.

ITMT, have at it. You're merely providing further entertainment by being a witless punching bag (now ordering beer to go with the popcorn.)

I look at results.

You look strictly at business results, through the eyes of the most amoral brand of capitalism. Other people are concerned with national sovereignty, national security, and whether or not we'll be living in a 3rd world nation in 50 years.
