Boehner hints a back down on 'amnesty'
The Washington Times ^ | March 29, 2006 | Charles hurt

Posted on 03/29/2006 7:15:28 AM PST by surely_you_jest

House Majority Leader John A. Boehner refused yesterday to rule out compromising with the Senate to expand the House border security bill to include a guest-worker program or provisions that opponents call "amnesty." "Let's wait and see what the Senate can produce," he told reporters yesterday when asked whether House Republicans would reject the Senate Judiciary Committee's proposal to allow the estimated 12 million illegal aliens now in the U.S. to seek citizenship after paying a fine.

Yes, I would favor deportation, based on the following reasons:

1. The presumed law would be easy to comply with, and scofflaws need to go home.

2. Avoiding registration means that they want to avoid compliance with tax law ( a felony) or that they have a criminal record (also a felony).

3. Non-compliance could also mean that they weren't here for work but rather crime of some sort or terrorism.

My own opinion has somewhat evolved on this issue. I think we must now focus on legalizing those who want to be "Americans". A guest worker plan is a joke. Perhaps if we find a way to keep those who want to be American, pay taxs, and do the right thing, while deporting the criminals, undesirables, etc, while securing the border, this might work.

I also think that any plan without strict enforcement will lead to more problems.

If people dont want to be Americans, and simply want to be Mexicans in America, then I say ship them out.

Mind her own business? Didn't you post on a public site?

Whatever.

Got a factual response to my answer to your question about my 20 million plus numbers?

Or are you just here to toss around personal insults like others?

How did Clinton do a better job with immigration control? I don't recall it was even an issue. Well, he did make Elian Gonzales go back to Cuba.

Well, according to Dick Morris, Vicente Fox employee, we have to give Mexico everything its agents marching in the streets of LA are demanding, or we will have a communist running Mexico.

Doesn't sound like much of a choice to me. We've dealt with commies before, so bring it on. It would be better than this disgusting friendship with Vicente Fox that is somehow contingent on us not enforcing border control.

I think this is what is missing from te current debate. I think many conservatives, including myself, would go along with this if those refusing to signup were deported and kept out for good.

Most of us have a problem with people who piss on us, make demands, and try to convince us that we are racists for not wanting to continue the chaos and looting.

I think we need people who want to be Americans first and foremost, not Mexicans who simply want to come here, exploit the situation, and still hold their blood oath allegiance to Mexico.

There is no doubt that illegal immigration is a problem. However, to say there is no enforcement on the border is simply false.

I don't even have an opinion or idea as evolved as yours. I have no clue what should be done except it would be nice if we didn't put people who got here illegally in line before people who have gone through the legal process.

Also, I'd really love to see the country have a policy of deciding what kind of skill levels are required in the country (like nursing or teachers) and make it mandatory that some certain percentage of those allowed to become citizens fit those parameters.

As I said in my post, they were doing more to enforce the laws against hiring illegal aliens. Enforcement has dwindled under the current administration...to almost zero.

74 percent think "the government shouldn't make it easier for illegal aliens to become citizens." (USA Today/CNN, Jan. 2004) Live with it.

Fine with me.

Name a plan that supports it and I won't support that plan.

Yes, do you have factual info on the 20 mil number? I'm not here to toss insults, I'm here to defend what used to be a place both sides of an issue posted facts and discussed the revelant issues. If you're right and can back it up, I'm with you. If you're just going to toss out insults, I'm not there. I'm not on the side of I'm right and your wrong, and poo poo on your side because I'm right and your wrong side. Let's discuss factual information. Got a 20 mil not knee jerk reaction info to support your claim?

How did Clinton's administration try to enforce the laws against companies hiring illegals? Did Clinton sign legislation into law and Bush undid or was the Justice Department told to focus on companies hiring illegals?

I remember Clinton focusing more on Microsoft than terrorists and don't remember even ever hearing the word illegals during his administration.

McCain-Kennedy-Specter allows illegal aliens to become citizens after a certain number of years with some lame fine.

True, of course. But it is pretty pathetic. Millions are getting through...the estimate is at least three million in the last year alone.

That link screwed up my system. May be as high as, isn't as high as. It's a speculative argument. Got some data to support this, or just some pdf file that doesn't open in my system?

I haven't seen President Bush, or any other Republicans except McCain, propose any amnesty plan.

Guest workers isn't amnesty.
