One complication in the analysis is that they killed her translator with whom she was apparently friendly...
If it was a setup from the beginning it seems like they could have avoided killing...that would make her an accessory to murder.

Unless her story changes drastically once she is out of Iraq, I completely agree. Something is amiss.

Iraqi Groups Seek Journalist's Release By Firas Al-Atraqchi Thursday 19 January 2006, 4:56 Makka Time, 1:56 GMT Carroll wrote for the Christian Science Monitor from Iraq A day after Aljazeera aired video of kidnapped journalist Jill Carroll, several prominent Iraqi groups have demanded her immediate and unconditional release. Muthana Harith al-Dhari, head of the influential Association of Muslim Scholars (AMS), condemned and denounced all violent acts that expose innocent citizens regardless of their identities to danger. Al-Dhari told Iraqi television: "Regarding the recent kidnapping of the American journalist [Jill Carroll] ... This journalist is one of the anti-occupation journalists. Indeed, she wrote many articles that explain the negative signs of the occupation. Also, in a recent story, she focused on the violations performed by government security forces against civilians. http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/80454A4B-558E-49A7-ABDD-C488064270B9.htm

http://www.mentalmayhem.org/newswire/2006/01/jordan_times_ed.html Jordan Times Editorial: Our Jill (excerpted) The kidnappers who abducted her could not have chosen a more wrong target. True, Jill is a US citizen. But she is also more critical of US policies towards the Middle East than many Arabs. Though as a reporter she always complies with the strictest requirements of objectivity and impartiality, Jill has been from day one opposed to the war, to the invasion and occupation of Iraq. More than just being sympathetic with average Iraqis under war and occupation, Jill is a true believer in Arab causes. From Arabic food to the Arabic language, Jill has always wanted to know and experience as much as possible about Arab identity, and she is keen on absorbing it, learning, understanding and respecting it. She doesn't just "like" Arab culture, she loves it.

It's all just a little too good to be true, not to have ben initially orchestrated or a result of conversion on some level.

"The irony of Carrolls kidnapping is that it has been journalists like herself who have taken great risks to immerse themselves in the real Iraq to get the real stories. Stories not about the war itself, but about the wars impact on average Iraqis. Journalists are here to tell the world about the occupation, so kidnapping a journalist is going to hide the truth, said Muthana Harith al-Dari on Wednesday. Dari, a leader of Iraqs Muslim Scholars Associations, an umbrella group for a number of leading Sunni clerics, issued a plea to the kidnappers to let Carroll free. She is considered one of the best journalists who stood against the American occupation of Iraq and she focused her articles on telling the world about the Iraqi peoples suffering. http://www.italknews.com/view_story.php?menu=&submenu=World&sid=1223

She already has been caught lying in her post release interview where she says she was not threatened, since she was on video with AK- 47's trained on her head. Allow me to speculate.
IF Jill Carroll was a willing participant in a fake kidnapping for ransom, and...
IF the video showing the AK-47 trained at her head was staged as part of that fake kidnapping for ransom...
THEN her statement that she was not threatened is completely truthful.
Of course, that would also make her complicit in the death of her translator, who was shot it the course of her alleged abduction, wouldn't it?
To: JABBERBONK
Remember, she was at the Iraqi Islamic headquarters when she made that statement. Let's see if her story changes once she is safely under the protection of US forces.

The media is emphasizing how "peaceful" the kidnappers were/are; and SHE'S emphasizing "how well" she was treated.
Doesn't sound right.

I have felt that way since the last time she was shown pleading for her life. Since these islamofacist don't seem to respect their own women, it seems that she looked awfully clean and well fed in that interview and now that she has been released she speaks of how she wasn't threatened. My warning lights start flashing whenever I see her.
