I think Canada realizes illegals negatively impact their social programs. You cannot get landed immigrant status in Canada unless you can prove you can support yourself and won't wind up on social services. Don't know why we can't do that. Oh, I remember. Ted Kennedy and the immigration reform he pushed through in the late 60's.

Prediction: it had nothing to do with where she was. She will not change her tune. She is an Arabist sympathizer based on her history and writings. Oddly, I hope I am wrong.
I would be a lot more comfortable with the legislation if the funding for the enforcement were part of the legislation. I don't have any problem with what McCain is SAYING...but will his colleagues in this Congress and future Congresses fund the enforcement piece of it? Enforcement as well as BICE Reform. Lindsay Graham was particularly good on this on Sean last night. BICE is a rotten-to-the-core agency...as long as it doesn't do the job, this problem will remain. Period. I don't care what the law is, if it is so complex that it can't be followed, it WILL be ignored. And we will continue to have this problem. And I don't think we should live with that in a 9/11 world, but I'm not terribly confident of its solution.

ED said that there is a 14% unemployment rate among Americans w no degree. My guess is some of them will do those jobs as well as those being layed off or displaced by illegals willing to work for less wages.
