Sen. George Allen split with President Bush over the illegal immigration crisis on Sunday, making him the only likely 2008 presidential candidate to back an "enforcement first" approach to border security. "I think it's vitally important that we first and foremost recognize that there's a consensus in America that we need to secure our borders," Allen told ABC's "This Week."

Pandering.
Not so good news for MCain in 2008
BTW...I just took action to help STOP "guest worker" amnesty for illegal aliens.!

That was my assessment, too. After it's all said and done, the politicians will sell us out, Rep and Dems.
Does this mean Frist's not running? I thought he was all over this issue.
A baby step. What is needed is an "enforcement-only" approach, not an "enforcement-first" approach.
This move is definitely going
to get Allen some increased
pizzaz and the media will play
it for all it's worth about a
rift in the GOP leadership.
Future voters you know...
'08 is too late anyway. They'll pass this treason and no one can unring that bell.
Allen's modus operandi is telling people what they want to hear. Allen's words do nothing to secure the border. A panderer indeed.
By opposing Bush he supports Hillary, Pelosi, and Al Qaeda

We have a golden oppotunity to show them what we think in '06.
No, we DON'T have control of the Supreme Court, yet. I just reviewed and wrote up a case yesterday where the vote was 5-3, Alito not participating. Alito would have voted no but that wasn't enough. Over a sharp dissent by the Chief Justice, the variable-Constitution crowd prevailed in that case concerning search warrants and drugs.
I don't think this is pandering on Allen's behalf. My impression of him is that he's a law-and-order type of guy. This stance on illegal immigration is entirely consistent with that.
Congressman Billybob
I like Allen, too. I really wish we could put a Mike Pence up there, but he doesn't have the name, the money, or the clout. I think he's a better speaker than Allen, but I don't think that's going to cut it.
It did take him some time to come announce his stance on this one. Maybe he wanted to give Frist's statements some time to die down a bit? Whatever the case, I think it's clear that those who take the right stance on this issue become the frontrunners.
I predict that Allen will get the nomination. I would like to see a ticket of Allen/Rice. That ticket would beat the Democrats like a rented mule, regardless of whom they cough up as their nominees.
John / Billybob PLEASE visit my website, below. We have an early primary, a month away. Next week will be too late.
Have you heard any other of George Allen's statements on this issue ..?? I didn't think so!
He's not pandering .. he's being a realist.
Allen for President.
If we don't stop this McCain/Kennedy amnesty... there ain't 'gonna be no need for a Republican candidate in 2008.
No he doesn't!
