Coalition Sign-On Letter to the Senate Urging Opposition of Expansion of the Basic Pilot Employment Verification System (3/27/2006)

Oppose Expansion of the Basic Pilot Employment Verification System as a Threat to American’s Privacy

Dear Senator:

The undersigned organizations and individuals urge you to oppose Section 301 of both Chairman Specter’s Immigration Mark and S. 2454, the Securing America’s Border Act, introduced by Senator Frist. This legislation mandates the use of the Basic Pilot employment verification database by all United States employers to verify the work-eligibility of all current employees and all future hires. The Chairman’s Mark, S. 2454, and other similar proposals to expand the Basic Pilot program present a grave threat to the privacy of all Americans. This expansion will lay the groundwork for a national ID system, increase the threat of identity theft and identity fraud, and it will encounter significant technical problems that will cost many Americans their jobs.

Expanding the Basic Pilot program lays the groundwork for a national ID system. This government database will contain extensive information about every American and work-authorized non-citizen in the country. Allowing the government to maintain these kind of files on all Americans and requiring each person to obtain an employment eligibility card is but a short step from implementing a national identification system. Congress has consistently renounced efforts to institute a national ID in the past because of its incompatibility with the core principles of a free society. Do not allow this legislation to slip it in through the back door.

Expanding the employment verification system will not stop unscrupulous individuals from obtaining employment. Instead, it will lead to an increase in identity theft and identity fraud. Any person who wants to sidestep the system can easily steal the identity of a work-authorized individual or purchase fraudulent documents. This will create a whole new market for stolen identities and put Americans at an increased risk. Additionally, the employment verification database itself would be at risk of being hacked, which would expose huge segments of the population to the theft of their identities and the exposure of other private information contained in the database.

The Basic Pilot program is currently used by 3,600 employers. Expanding it to all 8.4 million U.S. employers will pose serious technical obstacles. The system will need to verify the work eligibility of all 146 million people currently employed in the United States, plus 54 million new hires each year. We have already seen, in its current limited usage, the widespread inaccuracies in the data used by Basic Pilot. One in every ten employees must be manually verified by Department of Homeland Security staff after the automatic system fails to match the individual to the necessary data. This rate of failure, multiplied to all employers and all employees in the U.S., will have real consequences for hundreds of thousands of Americans. People could lose their jobs and others will be needlessly denied employment every year.

The Government Accountability Office estimates that this employment verification system will cost $11.7 billion annually. In exchange for this huge investment, the American people will get a system that limits their freedom, exposes them to heightened risk of identity theft, and could unfairly deny them the right to earn a living and support their families. Additionally, it will not prevent determined individuals from circumventing the system and continuing to work illegally. For these reasons, we urge you to oppose Section 301 of both Chairman Specter’s Immigration Mark and S. 2454, and similar Senate proposals to expand the flawed Basic Pilot program.

You nailed it...This problem has gone unattended for so long that now both parties are prostituting themselves for this monstrous voting block. The last chance to stop this tidal wave was Prop 187, which the libs had overturned.

I fear you are right. The coalition of D 'ghetto builders' and R 'cheap labor' advocates is sufficiently strong to prevent any real border security. On this one, the citizens truly do not have a place at the table. And that's why the debate is getting so strident.

True border security now (a fence if needed) would solve most of the problem. Over time, the difficulty of getting over the border would make coming here and staying here a lot less attractive. It would halt the invasion in its tracks. And it would give us time to work out a solution for the current illegals who remain.

Unfortunately, the open borders coalition wants the opposite result--a form of amnesty (making coming here more attractive) and symbolic-only border security. That's the solution we reached in the 80's (the amnesty program) and I have no idea why anyone thinks it will work better today than it did over the past 22 years.

Thanks, Great One. Isn't it hilarious? Sickening, but hilarious. I'm going to be busy working during your show tonight, unable to listen. Is there any way to hear it later online?

1. Copy this piece, add a cover page asking "Why didn't Democrats do this immigration fix in 1993?", and leave copies around.

2. Email your rep's with "Why wasnt the 'Immigration Stabilization Act of 1993, Introduced by Senator Reid' adopted then?" and "Please re-introduce it."

Our Congress bought and paid for by special interests over the interests of our Nation. Reid needs to resign today.

This is an interesting document which outlines the legal immigration process DAILY.

http://uscis.gov/graphics/publicaffairs/DayinLife_050629.pdf

Some of the DAILY work of USIS according to their own document:

* Conduct 135,000 national security background checks

* process 30,000 applications for immigrant benefits

* Issue 7,000 permanent resident cards (green cards -PER DAY)

* Welcome 2100 new citizens.

* Welcome 3500 new permanent residents.

Does this look like we are not allowing enough "Legal" entries?

We don't need an immigration bill at this time. We need and want a border security and illegal aliens bill. No guest worker bill until that is done.

This is not about workers rights or fair immigration policies. It has to do with international communist/socialist orgs looking to gain the political upperhand in the U.S..

Posted by JeffHead Jeff links to Mexica.org's 'after protest' pic fest. You can see there what the marchers thought they were marching for.

A poster for Friday’s march. March 31. This poster lists the Latino orgs that are promoting the protests. They are all communist/socialist front orgs.

Here is my analysis of what is going on behind the scenes.

Here is some evidence that 'amnesty' increases illegal entries. These people knew before the demonstrations that the time was ripe.

Smith Act of 1940 This is the U.S. statute that ought to apply to the organized gathering of tens of thousands of foreign nationals calling for the overthrow of our country.

H.R. 4437 At this link you will find a good exegesis of the only bill that doesn't offer some type of amnesty/pathway to citizenship/excuses for illegal entry. It is harsh on employers but has reasonable protections for employers who verify documents that are later shown to be false. It explains that the databases necessary are already in place. It provides for border security.

Understand that the provision that the protesters say is 'racist,' that makes illegals felons, was inserted by the Dems a short time ago. That clarifies why Hillary happened to discover the immigration issue a week before the marches. Why she demonized Republicans as "making Jesus a criminal."

Keep in mind just who organized these protests. Who provided the tens of thousands of T-shirts, the thousands of professionally made signs, the hours and hours of promotion on Spanish language radio and TV stations. It has been noticed that Islamic orgs names and logos appear on some of these signs as well. Remember that NEA teachers and adminstrators are the ones who have assisted the march organizers by providing bussing for their students, hoisting Mexican flags at school and overlooking the truancy.

Don't forget that the last two Presidential elections were nearly 50/50. Think about how our Congress is looking for a way to appease these foreign nationals through legilation. No election necessary. The outcome of legalizing 11 million illegals and encouraging more to come will be a solid lock for the left forevermore in national elections.

Mexico is Rich- Mexican wealthy play American taxpayers for suckers

Good thread for any that missed it. It should really make you mad.

Every dollar spent in U.S. taxes for social services for illegal aliens frees up additional cash to be sent south as part of the annual remittances which provided $20 billion in 2005. According to the CNN news show Lou Dobbs Tonight (3/21/05), "Remittances, as they're called, are expected to become Mexico's primary source of income this year, surpassing the amount of money that Mexico makes on oil exports for the first time ever."

If there was ever an issue to pound the idea for term limits this is it. These self-pandering overbloated egoist DC pols don't have the best interests of the American people in mind (except a few)

This is a great thread.

However anyone feels about the current immigration debate, this is a great way to feed the RATS their own words back to them on a stick!

Dingy Harry, The Rat leader of the Senate, can spend his time defending his own words, rather than bashing Republicans for proposing less extreme measures.

I hope this speech/bill makes the news for the next week or so.

The RATS can stumble around defending this and McKinney.

I'll betcha they are cursing the day that that damn OWL GORE invented the Internet!

Here are the priorities as far as I see them:
1) build a solid border fence from the pacific to the gulf including but not limited to: barbed wire, double fences, attack dogs, electric charges, photo electronic equipment, unmanned drone planes.

2) Shut down and jail all employers AND their illegal employees and fine the employers 1 years worth of net profit.

3) Tax EVERY outgoing paycheck and cash transaction to Mexico by atleast 40%.

I brought this up here about a week ago that the RATS and the DNC were behind all of this to start with.

They insisted on making the House bill contain a "poison pill" (felony), organize rallies, then condemn Republicans and smear them as being against all Hispanics, legal or illegal.
