More Severe Weather Possible For Midwest

URGENT - IMMEDIATE BROADCAST REQUESTED SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH NUMBER 152 NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER NORMAN OK 1110 PM CDT WED APR 5 2006

THE NWS STORM PREDICTION CENTER HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR PORTIONS OF

SOUTHERN AND EASTERN IOWA
WESTERN ILLINOIS
CENTRAL AND EASTERN MISSOURI

EFFECTIVE THIS WEDNESDAY NIGHT AND THURSDAY MORNING FROM 1110 PM UNTIL 500 AM CDT.

HAIL TO 2 INCHES IN DIAMETER...THUNDERSTORM WIND GUSTS TO 60 MPH...AND DANGEROUS LIGHTNING ARE POSSIBLE IN THESE AREAS.

THE SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH AREA IS APPROXIMATELY ALONG AND 100 STATUTE MILES EAST AND WEST OF A LINE FROM 50 MILES NORTH NORTHEAST OF DES MOINES IOWA TO 15 MILES SOUTH SOUTHWEST OF SCOTT AFB ILLINOIS. REMEMBER...A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA. PERSONS IN THESE AREAS SHOULD BE ON THE LOOKOUT FOR THREATENING WEATHER CONDITIONS AND LISTEN FOR LATER STATEMENTS AND POSSIBLE WARNINGS. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN AND OCCASIONALLY DO PRODUCE TORNADOES.

DISCUSSION...WARM ADVECTION TSTMS EXPECTED TO PERSIST/INCREASE IN COVERAGE THROUGH EARLY THURSDAY ACROSS THE MID MS VLY AS ELEVATED MOISTURE TRANSPORT STRENGTHENS OVER REGION. SUFFICIENT CLOUD LAYER SHEAR IS PRESENT FOR STORM ROTATION...WITH STEEP MID LEVEL LAPSE RATES FOSTERING PRODUCTION OF SEVERE HAIL.

AVIATION...A FEW SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS WITH HAIL SURFACE AND ALOFT TO 2 INCHES. EXTREME TURBULENCE AND SURFACE WIND GUSTS TO 50 KNOTS. A FEW CUMULONIMBI WITH MAXIMUM TOPS TO 450. MEAN STORM MOTION VECTOR 30025.

Yeah I know, I already heard on Weather Channel "Massive storm outbreaks, global warming the cause" etc.

Just sitting here scratching my head. Uh... I look forward to spring EVERY year for this stuff.

Thanks, Lurker. Just waking up in the storm zone here. I don't watch local or network news so I could have been utterly oblivious until the sirens started going off, as they did the other day.

The NWS cancelled the T-Storm watch at about 0400 this morning. I haven't gotten anything further but some flash flood watches since then.
