Saddam Ordered Suicide Attacks on U.S. Targets

A newly translated document from Saddam Hussein's intelligence files indicates that the Iraqi dictator ordered suicide attacks against U.S. targets six months before the 9/11 attacks.

Dated March 11, 2001, the Iraqi memo reads:

To all the Units

Subject: Volunteer for Suicide Mission

The top secret letter 2205 of the Military Branch of Al Qadisya on 4/3/2001 announced by the top secret letter 246 from the Command of the military sector of Zi Kar on 8/3/2001 announced to us by the top secret letter 154 from the Command of Ali Military Division on 10/3/2001 we ask to provide that Division with the names of those who desire to volunteer for Suicide Mission to liberate Palestine and to strike American Interests and according what is shown below to please review and inform us.

The document is signed by Air Brigadier General Abdel Magid Hammot Ali.

While the big media has so far ignored the find, Captain's Quarters blogger Ed Morrissey notes:

"If this translation stands up to further scrutiny, it will provide a substantial answer to the question of Saddam's role in terrorism, both in general and specifically aimed at America.

"This memo will prove that Saddam had no intention of remaining neutralized in the region. He not only funded and encouraged terrorism, but he actively recruited terrorists from the ranks of his own military to carry out suicide attacks on American interests."

Giving credit to FR or Jveritas is nice, but egotistical. Getting the truth out first should be priority number one!

Yes, you make a good point. The most important thing is to get the word out.

Wonder when they'll get to the boxes from 1990-95.

It'll be very interesting to see what Saddam had to say to Kevin Mahon (Elohim City, on Saddam's Payroll for instigating Anti-War activities during GW-I) and Timothy McVeigh's Republican Guard drinking buddies.

Someone call and read this to Nancy Pelosi, Barbara Boxer, Dianne Feinstein, Howard Dean, Schumer, Kennedy, and the rest of the Liberal Rat Pack and don't forget their new buddy, McCain.

>>>If the Iraqi's were serious they would have searched their volunteer suicider solder base to find some with similar looks.

I don't understand what that means? The orders for attacks were Baathist orders and we seized the Baathist files. So what do you mean about the Iraqi's searching their base?

They should have credited FR for this translation. Captain Quarters copied my translation exactly and posted it on his website attributing it to Laurie Mylroie. However later on Laurie Mylroie credited FR for the original translation.

Anyway as long as the truth come out it is fine with me, I do not care if I my name get mentioned but I love to see Free Republic being recognized and credited.

However Captain's Qaurters still make it looks like he got the translation from Laurie Mylroie and he says that we on FR had a similar translation. I am p100% sure that he copied exactly my same translation because of some minor spelling errors I had made in my original post, mainly in the name of the authors of the top secret memo. Captain Quarters shows the same exact spelling error in his post of the translation.

PS: Laurie Mylroie credited FR for being the first to release the translation of this document

We have GOT to keep the pressure on the media! So far the lamestream media has only written articles that come across as skeptical of the documents. Burn the Internet lines up with emails about this. Blog about it - write letters to the editors of your local paper. The DNC has the advantage of controlling the big media outlets but we have the numbers! Come on pajama warriors - let's kick some butt!!!

Not base as in military base, base as in a set or group. Basically referring to the group of solders or baathists that volunteered for the suicide attack on US interests. I entered that text quickly in real time. Sorry.

I remember the Powerline guy taking credit for the RatherGate memo instead of our Buckhead. The Powerline guy (John) is kind of being dismissive of this whole Iraqi documents issue.

In fact in his yesterday post, he also credited this document translation to Captain’s quarters and Laurie Mylroie, and he went on to “Over Analyze” the document claiming that the intent of this Iraqi top secret letter may mean that if the Iraqi suicide terrorists “liberate Palestine” they are indirectly striking US interests and that the document does not necessarily means that the suicide terrorists are going to directly hit US interests. He is wrong in his “over analysis”, the document is very clear that the two events (liberating Palestine), and striking US interest are meant to be separate from each other, if they were connected it would have been written and worded in different way than the one shown in the letter. Unfortunately for John from Powerline he does not know Arabic, I do and I know exactly what these documents mean or do not mean.

I agree with you that I do not have to get the credit personally and I do not really want it, but I disagree with you about not giving credit to Free Republic.

Still don't follow. We seized their Baathist records and have killed or rounded up Saddam followers. What aren't the Iraqi's doing or do you think they should be doing?

It sure looks like the president was justified to go to Iraq

The President was justified in going into Iraq based solely on the fact that Saddam refused to comply with the UN Resolutions that allowed him to remain in power after Operation Desert Storm. Saddam had far too many chances to comply, and he chose not to.

Your reply is exactly right and I wish people, left and right, would remember that. The Iraq war was NEVER contingent upon the existence of WMD at the precise time of the start of the war. The Iraq War is about 12 years of 17 UNSCRs of disarmament that were all breached by a regime proven to have used WMD in campaigns of genocide against innocent people and the subsequent threat that that posed on world security through continued noncompliance of disarmament.

The onus was on the Hussein regime to prove the destruction and non-existance of WMD. Whether we thought Saddam had WMD or not was irrelevant.
