The American Public has Beat the Special Interest Lobbies by Reaching Out to Their Senators!

But, the Fight for Immigration Enforcement Isn't Over

Today, the Senate yet again failed to gather enough votes to pass the latest amnesty proposal brought to the Senate floor. On Wednesday, the Senate took a vote to end debate on the Specter/Kennedy amnesty bill approved by the Senate Judiciary Committee. That bill proposed giving amnesty to the 12 million illegal aliens present in the United States while at the same time opening the door for a million more guest workers to come to the country. FAIR members over the past two weeks voiced their opposition to the Specter/Kennedy bill, and the bill was set aside after a procedural vote to end debate failed. With the Senate scheduled to recess at the end of this week, amnesty-supporters in the Senate had to scramble to find another alternative.

Senators spent much of this week meeting behind closed doors to reach a "compromise." In the rush to reach agreement and return home for the recess, Senators Hagel and Martinez magically appeared with a "compromise" that they believed would garner the support needed to pass the chamber. Unsurprisingly, once the "compromise" was reviewed, it was apparent the bill was virtually the same as the Specter/Kennedy amnesty bill. The only notable differences were the creation of a bifurcated amnesty path and the tremendous increase in employment-based visas.

FAIR reached out to its members yesterday to phone the Senate. And you responded by calling your Senators to tell them the American people cannot be fooled. Your calls produced a major victory! The cloture vote on the Hagel/Martinez "compromise" was defeated 38-60! Amnesty does not have enough support in the Senate to pass!

Not to be forgotten, the cloture vote on Senator Frist's bill also was defeated, 36-62. As you know, the Frist bill had border security provisions, but also included a doubling of legal immigration per year. We asked you to call in to voice your opposition to this bill-true enforcement first! Yet again, the tireless members of FAIR and others who support true immigration reform made your voices heard! Congratulations to all of you! We thank you for your dedication and support.

We have won this battle, friends, but the war is not over. Chairman Specter has said that when they return from recess, he intends to take up the issue of immigration again. Because Congress is in recess over the next two weeks (April 10-21) please call or stop by your Senators' district offices. See the list of offices at http://www.nomoreamnesty.com/offices.html This will reinforce where the American public stands. Now is not the time to rest! Demonstrations and rallies by the open borders lobby are planned for April 10. Don't let these demonstrations drown out your opinion. Let your Senators know your priorities are border security and enforcement first!

Congratulations!

Programming Note:

Lou Dobbs Tonight
Live from Washington, DC
Friday, April 7, 2006

The devil is indeed in the details. Less than a day after
Republican and Democratic Senators took turns in front of
television cameras congratulating themselves and their esteemed colleagues for reaching a compromise on illegal immigration reform, their bill hit a major roadblock and has stalled.

Senate Republicans revolted when Democrats attempted to
suppress amendments on the legislation. The Senate will not
vote on illegal immigration reform until after the Easter
recess, if ever.

Senator John Cornyn of Texas joins Lou to discuss why the
compromise agreement failed and what that failure means for the prospect of passing major legislative reform on border security and illegal immigration.

And what is the cost of immigration reform? Senator Jeff
Sessions of Alabama is calling for a Congressional Budget
Office review of the cost of implementing amnesty programs.

Some have estimated that cost to be as high as $40 billion.

We’ll have that report.

Throughout the country, millions of protesters are gearing up for anti-Sensenbrenner legislation marches. Rep. Jim
Sensenbrenner of Wisconsin talks to Lou tonight.

And Lou will be talking with our political roundtable – CNN senior political analyst Bill Schneider, former White House political director Ed Rollins, WOL radio talk show host Joe Madison, and New York Daily News Michael Goodwin – for a wrap-up of the week’s top stories.

I do not trust Cornyn, Kyl anymore than McCain and I read an article about Kay's dismay over it

I don't trust them either. They are going to have to do more than this to earn my trust back... including/especially "Kay". ***My reps, BTW***

You are very welcome-----I am not encouraging contact with legislators b/c I believe they are in league with the forces of illegality. We are on our own, and, fortunately have all the laws we need to get these friggin illegals out of our country, subito.

"The entire thing was a show"

Not hardly, the way the vote flipped implies that the dems and their republican allies will allow the needed amendments but not Frist's 20 amendments.

Additionally, the dems want to know who is going to conference committe.

Really? Wow.

I wonder if someone can answer this for me please.
Why couldn't Senate pass legislation to close the southern border and secure it with armed guards immediately before they left for 2 weeks vacation? Why does that have to be part of Immigration reform legislation? Is there a reason why they didn't control the border so as not to compound the problems by others sneaking in meantime?

We have enough illegals here now we have to stop the invasion and than deal with those already here.

There is something downright creepy about a bill labeled "Specter/Kennedy."

Who could trust a bill sponsored by a RINO and a wino?

Even worse is two Rino's and a wino:

McCain/Specter/Kennedy

Way to early for back patting, although we have for now avoided an attempt to weaken our immigration laws. Yes, that is a victory for our side.

Of course, we still have much work to do to secure our borders. It will take years if we do it without military support, but if that is how we will precede, then let it begin.

The Senate leadership (and the President) hoped for support of something we didn't want. They didn't get it. Their phones are probably still vibrating from the barage of calls saying "NO to Amnesty".

The FROBL were pretty quiet today from what I saw, except for one recent diehard who said "the gloves come off today".

Well, bring it on!

This is a fight. Make no mistake about it. But we just won Round 1. Yea!

Now is the time to give strength to the ones on the right side and weaken the knees of those on the wrong side.

I need a new program to tell me who's on which side.....!!
