Oprah Winfrey: Wealth Is 'A Good Thing'
People ^

Posted on 04/11/2006 7:46:00 PM PDT by Lurking in Kansas

...Winfrey, 52, who is reportedly worth more than $1 billion, said she doesn't feel guilty about her wealth. "I was coming back from Africa on one of my trips," she said. "I had taken one of my wealthy friends with me. She said, 'Don't you just feel guilty? Don't you just feel terrible?' I said, 'No, I don't. I do not know how me being destitute is going to help them.' Then I said when we got home, 'I'm going home to sleep on my Pratesi sheets right now and I'll feel good about it.' "

I still cant stand this woman. She built her little empire on trash TV for years. She shills her new age garbage latest shrink of the week "book club" for the unthinking daytime TV boneheads who put every title she deems Oprah approved on the best sellers list.

And that's why she should feel guilty. It's not her wealth, but how she got it.

I was thinking the same thing! It boggles the mind that Oprah still supports the WITCH from NY 100% even after her rant about the rich! Hehehe, someone better tell bubba to fork over his millions to the poor, cause it seems HE and THE WITCH bank account is getting fatter and fatter! STUPID hypocritical *ITCH!!

Just by gettin rich, she has already "paid back". First, she has paid a bundle of taxes to support not only the good stuff like the military, but also taken some of the load off the rest of us for all the crap the govt. spends money on. Second, she has employed a small army of people who have thus earned wages, paid taxes, supported their familys, all the other stuff that raises people out of poverty. Third, she has sold a jillion dollars worth of product, which has also allowed companies to hire another army of people who otherwise might be out of work, or making less money. Fourth, she has spent her money on shoes, sheets, etc., all of which are produced by another group of companies and employees. Everybody in this country ought to pause for 30 seconds every day and say a silent prayer of thanks for the rich. They help everybody just be becoming rich

I still say that a person who goes to the poorest country on earth and starts a business, hires one employee and pays him a wage that will allow him escape poverty does more good for humanity than a hundred Mother Theresa's who do nothing but pray for the poor and hold their hand while they starve.

No, really, I think Okrah is an AA queen, and if you saw her early appearances you'd agree,

It is amazing to see how much lighter skinned Oprah has gotten over the years. She hasn't reached the Michael Jackson stage yet; however, she is several shades lighter now than she was when she started out.

Oprah does pass on some good information on her show. But, she certainly tries to indoctrinate the female viewers into her extreme left-wing liberal view point. Sadly, waaaaay too many of them are dumb enough to fall for her disinformation. The hysterical women in her audience screaming like she was the Beatles or Elvis appearing on the Ed Sullivan show is totally revolting.

I imagine Oprah feels good about her money because she worked hard for it. Those who feel guilty about it probably do so for good reason.

Everything I needed to know about Oprah I learned working with her on the movie "Beloved".

She insisted that the whole crew (100+) be Black. When the union told her that she will get those best qualified no matter what color they are she had a fit. It required the union (IATSE) to try and find as many Blacks as possible to work the shoot while maintaining a degree of fairness.

During the shooting she would throw fits if she didn't like something. Her entourage would number 12-20 people, most who were straphangers and yes people.

She gave me some dirty looks but never spoke to me during two months of shooting. I always just ignored her.

She is no different then Danny Glover or JJ or Al Sharpton except that she is pandering to a larger audience.

No2...

Why would one rich person ask Oprah if SHE feels guilty? Does that person feel guilty also?

Rich people DO feel guilty.:

"I had taken one of my wealthy friends with me. She said, 'Don't you just feel guilty? Don't you just feel terrible?'

That's why the Hollywood activist types are always so cause-driven - they have to atone for their wealth. It's a burden to be wealthy, when the everyday person isn't. You feel tremendous guilt. But, apparently, Oprah doesn't. Maybe she feels that her generosity to causes more than atones for her wealth.

She shouldn`t feel guilty about being rich, she should feel guilty about getting paid for doing absolutely nothing of value at all for society. A guy cleaning a latrine does more than this cow. Oprah goes off the air nobody is going to give a damn, but someone who has to go to the bathroom is going to be mightly ticked off if there ain`t no toilet paper.

That was Morgan Freeman, not Lou Gossett and the movie was 'Lean On Me'. Lou Gossett was in 'The Principal', but he only played a security guard. Jim Belushi was the actual principal in that one. :)

'Stand By Me' was based on a Steven King short story about a bunch of kids that go see a dead body and 'find themselves' along the way. Good movie with a great cast, but other than the similar title, nothing to do with the others.

I wouldn't call her show 'trash TV'. It's certainly not on the low level of Maury Povich or Jerry Springer.

Well, it was after all her capacity to learn from experience that made her a success.

Hmmmmm.... I'm not sure I agree with the working hard part. Unless you consider pandering to an audience of middle-class, angst ridden, white women work! LOL!

So she might want to consider what actions she will be proud of in this life, sleeping on her expensive sheets, or building a school for someone.

Clueless socialists can't read either.

The article says she is building a school.

Just for your information, she owes the world nothing and anything anyone does or does not in life is self serving.
Yes, even suicide.

Please don't disparage Mother Theresa. Who are you, Christopher Hitchens? If Mother Theresa did nothing more than pray for the poor & hold their hand, it would be more than most of us do. As it was, she housed them, and fed them, and clothed them - AND held their hand & prayed for them.

Rich people usually spend lots of money and it trickles down. I remember years ago when old man Forbes threw himself a million dollar birthday and everyone one was disgusted at the waste of money. Most of that money went right on down the line like ripples in a pool.
