Not all are seekers of freedom...some are seekers of free-ride opportunities.

The difference is that his 'drugs' were legal drugs... pot isn't legal. Being addicted to a pain killer different than being a felon pot head.

I want a way to sort them. I want to keep the good rid us of the bad. But they are people. I am never comfortable with applying labels to people. I am a Roman Catholic but I am an American. I am Irish, Polish, English and Russian but I am an American. I am a lot of things but I am an American! I don't think that precludes me from embracing people of good will, even if they are not yet Americans.

I know...a Gore or Kerry plan would be a disaster. So let's do it right so we don't get one! Because if we screw up the Hispanic vote (there's a good argument to be made that because of GWB's 44% share of the Hispanic vote nationwide and great support in New Mexico was why he won)...we WILL get a Gore or Kerry plan. They'll undo anything we do now. So let's sit around the table and compromise and get a reasonable House-Senate Conference that will put more and better resources into Border Security; Reform BICE; Reform the quota system; give a path to people who pass various background checks both national and international (paid for by the immigrant) to become residents and citizens in a reasonable period of time. That will FIX it and be something we can be proud of. I show my age here but I remember when the Passport office was screwed up in the late 50s. I remember it only because I remember my uncle couldn't get a renewal on his passport for months. Eisenhower got Congress to give him carte blanche to fix it and appointed a State Department Czar, I believe Francis Parker, who made it so today you can get a passport in days not months. It shouldn't take years to do simple background checks companies can do in a few days. Then we'll have a SECURE AND rational system that will reinstill the desire to BE an American.

But not all are seekers of a free ride. The fact that you think of that suggests you economic status. This is not a slam, it's just a fact that you think that they think like you and that is not so. They can't think like you as they have not walked in your shoes, they don't bear your burdens and concerns, you don't think like them either.

I could sign on to LL's "second chance" plan, but if they won't show up to court, their not going to honor any other commitments.
BTW, I'm an all-American mutt (Irish/German/English/French/Cherokee)....and all of my direct ancestors were here before 1850.

they don't see themselves as victims, they seem themselves as bettering their lot, just because they are dirt to "you" does not make them victims.
So what do YOU propose? Open the border? Let them all come in? Let the whole world come in if it wants to? Hell, why don't we just give our country to Mexico since we are such pathetic people who treat everyone else in the world like trash. These people get more in free benefits through our Social programs than they get in their own country. Why is that? Because we ARE generous people.
But when people that BROKE THE LAW in the first place join together and DEMAND that they get the citizenship that is ENTITLED to them, that is going way too far. That is called being greedy. That is called abusing someone else's generosity.

No, I don't think like anyone else. However, I wouldn't invite myself into your house, prop up my feet on your table and demand you go fetch me a beer, then complain that it's not cold enough. That's what many of them are doing with their little "protests".

Three cheers for our Military -- what a great 'statement' our returning hero gave Murtha!!!!
That's one I hope FoxNews - Brit Hume - runs and I would love to see Mara's face and explantion of what our hero 'really meant' by his words or better yet -- what Murtha 'really meant by not responding'
MNJ thank you for the Rush ping!

If something happens and Hillary looses, the dems are finished for at least a decade. No way in hell Hillary loses in NY. She'd have to be convicted of murder first...

I think we use common sense and stop villianizing them and sort them out. Do you have any clue how tired I am of this? I now hate the right. Congratulations, way to win hearts and minds.
