Not race-baiting but interesting that you would take it that way. How can I race bait asking a question while white?
Every Mexican President has been lily-white and wants nothing more than to dump the "undesirables" on the US. If we were justified in invading Iraq, then we are perfectly justified in invading Mexico and overthrowing their corrupt, racist regime, since it has a direct impact on this country. It's the only way those Mexican people will ever have a chance of creating a decent country for themselves to live in, before a Chavista nut takes over the country. Of course, it will never happen.
I do know you better than that. I'm just saying that when the Law is an Ass, maybe you change to an Elephant. This immigration law we are living with was an LBJ concoction. That piece on FNC by WIlliam LaJaness (sp?) of FNC talks to how he screwed it up. The '86 Amnesty and subsequent tinkerings were simply amalgams to a plan which NEVER worked to start with. I'm saying that we should rethink the way we do the law so we get the people who will support our country, not the ones who wave the Mexican or other flag. As for breaking up families, I dunno. I hear you, because there ARE deadbeat dads. And then I remember Elian Gonzales. That little boy with the Assault Rifle in his face. And I ask myself do I want to see those pictures in the news. And if I DO see those pictures in the news, what's going to happen to all those folks who are afraid they're next. We will create a self-fulfilling prophecy by making family minded people into Democrats. Because they WON'T go home. They'll get enough people to vote DUmmy and then stay here even though they speak Spanish and don't want to learn English. Because they're VOTES. So then I ask what future would I rather see. I want to see Asian and Hispanic families who share our values to be Republican America lovers, not DUmmie American haters. And I don't see that fences, deportation orders or the like get us there. If you think it's pandering for votes, NO. VOtes have consequences. Those votes WILL go somewhere. We saw California go from GOP Reagan to DUmmie because of Pete Wilson. If we don't watch out we'll get the same result nation wide. And then there will be NO border security and NO limits on just getting the "good" immigrants. (and this argument is not "against" you personally and we are STILL friends...)
Lynn Swann's unseating Ed Rendell would be a serious blow to the Dems on many levels.
If you are born here, the way the law is now, you are a citizen. Change it? OK, but it will not be retroactive, so it solves the future but not the present.

Changing that requires a Constitutional Amendment to change the 14th Amendment. Can not happen realistically.

Exactly. Each person is a human being who deserves the chance to be an American if they want to be. If they don't, if they want to wave the Muslim or Mexican flag they SHOULD go home. But these are all people, individuals seeking freedom just like us.
