Tehran, Iran, Apr. 16 – The supreme commander of Iran’s regular armed forces said the Islamic Republic was monitoring enemy positions in the region and was prepared to give a “crushing” response to any foreign attack.

“The Islamic Republic of Iran’s army is closely monitoring all military activities across the region and by understanding the enemies’ goals and program has the required awareness and preparedness to counter any direct or indirect threat. The army will decisively respond to even the smallest act of aggression against the sovereignty and interests of the country”, Major General Atta’ollah Salehi said in a statement read out Saturday morning at the headquarters of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

“The army will in the shortest space of time give the most crushing response to any aggressor”, Salehi said, adding that the armed forces would continue to “emblazon the torch of the struggle against global imperialism”.

Iran has a dual military system with a regular armed forces as well as the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps (IRGC). Both report directly to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

In the Iran/Iraq war it was islamogarbage vs. islamogarbage. You're talking about a gang fight. I'm talking about war.

All Iran was really able to manage with Iraq was a standoff. We whipped the Iraqis quickly. I don't think they would last very long

Our first squadron of F22s are available and would guarantee air dominance almost immediately. They can also fly through Iraqi air defenses at will (more stealth than F117). The B2 won't be stopped by their air defenses.
From the air we can control them at will.

We have forces to their east, to their west and our Navy is to their south. Again, we control the chess board.

I suspect that if we attack, it will not be an invasion, but it also is not likely to be limited to nuclear capability. I suspect any attack will result in destruction of their missile sites, air force bases, runways, naval facilities and ships, etc. In other words we won't let them retalitate by striking ships in the Gulf of Hormuz.

I'm confused.
If they just have nuclear capability for POWER, not for WEAPONS, what are they going to 'annihilate' anyone with?
In one mouth-foaming speech, they just want nuclear energy.
In the next they're threatening to strike with means they don't have?
OY. We don't want to kill him- we just want to make him kosher!lol

Who? The Iranian General? ...vaporize him, then remove his molecules from the air? That would only clean the space that he occupies. I am a person of the nations (AFAIK so far), but even I know that he could not be made kosher. So there you have a Noachide decree. [Little humor there!]

You said something about "run away".

I didn't say how well they would do it, just that they have the capacity to die moving forward in great numbers.

Islamic nations could field good armies except that their dictators require obedience and loyalty in their generals and senior leaders, not ability.

The modern battlefield is high tec, complex and fast. Our military forces rule in all three. But we must not sit on our backside as somebody, China, just might pass us by.
