Pakistan needs to do more to crack down on terrorism along the Pakistani-Afghan border, a spokesman for Afghan President Hamid Karzai said Tuesday.

Rahim Karimi said in the news conference that Afghanistan need greater "cooperation" from both its eastern neighbor and the international community in its battle against Islamic militants.

"China, Vietnam Conduct Joint Naval Patrols in Gulf of Tonkin"

ARTICLE SNIPPET: "AFP: China and Vietnam are conducting joint military patrols off the Gulf of Tonkin, the first-time the Chinese navy has taken part in military exercises with another country, state press said April 28.

The patrols began April 27 and it is hoped they will help “order and stability” in the gulf the Beijing Daily Messenger reported.

The neighbors signed an agreement in October to begin the joint patrols when Vietnamese Defense Minister Pham Van Tra met with his counterpart Cao Gangchuan in Beijing.

In August 2005, the two sides agreed to speed up the demarcation of their shared border and were expected to finalize a treaty that would also include neighboring Laos within a year’s time."

Troops Kill Enemies, Destroy Weapons Caches in Afghanistan

American Forces Press Service

WASHINGTON, May 1, 2006 – Coalition forces killed more than a dozen enemy fighters in Afghanistan's Helmand province and, in joint operations with Afghan forces, destroyed weapons caches in Kabul, Kunar and Ghazni provinces April 29, military officials reported today.
A coalition patrol saw 15 to 20 men carrying AK-47 assault rifles and rocket-propelled-grenade launchers moving with the apparent intent to set up an ambush, officials said. After positively determining the activity as enemy operations and confirming no civilians were in the vicinity, the patrol engaged and killed the enemy fighters. Coalition forces reported no casualties or damage.

"Afghan armed forces and their coalition partners stand ready to defeat these terrorists at every turn," said Army Lt. Col. Paul Fitzpatrick, Combined Joint Task Force 76 spokesman. "We'll continue to pursue them and provide the security needed to ensure democratic processes can take root."

The same day, Afghan and coalition forces recovered more than 250 munitions and explosives in Kabul, Kunar and Ghazni provinces.

Coalition explosive ordnance disposal teams destroyed mines, fuses, mortars, rocket warheads, artillery projectiles and recoilless rifle rounds during a controlled detonation in Ghazni.

In separate incidents, troops seized rounds of ammunition, ammunition magazines, weapon rack systems, AK-47 assault rifles, pistols and a machine gun with ammunition.

"Recovering and disposing of these weapons increases the safety and security of Afghans, and reduces the danger in the area posed by criminals and insurgents who might use those munitions indiscriminately to cause harm (to) the Afghan people, Afghan security forces or coalition forces," Fitzpatrick said.

Egyptian man pleads guilty to smuggling more than 100 individuals

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- An Egyptian man has pleaded guilty to smuggling nearly 100 individuals from Middle Eastern countries into the United States, Assistant Attorney General Alice S. Fisher of the Criminal Division, U.S. Attorney Kenneth L. Wainstein of the District of Columbia, and Assistant Secretary Julie L. Myers of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), announced today.

Ashraf Ahmed Abdallah Bashar, 37, entered his guilty plea today in federal court before U.S. Magistrate Judge Deborah A. Robinson. Abdallah admitted to leading a human smuggling ring that brought 100 or more persons into the United States from April 2001 through January 2002.

According to plea documents filed in court, Abdallah met with and housed these men in Guatemala City where he offered to provide illegal entry into the United States. For up to $8,000, Abdallah arranged land transportation and guides to the United States and organized layovers at safe houses in Guatemala and Mexico. Abdallah also advised the men on how to avoid being apprehended during their journey to the United States. In the end, Abdallah and his co-conspirators successfully provided 100 or more individuals with guided foot-passage across the Southwest border into the United States.

Under the terms of the plea agreement, Abdallah could face a four-year prison sentence. His sentencing is set for October 24, 2006, before U.S. District Court Judge Ricardo M. Urbina.

"Providing persons with unknown backgrounds undetected entry into our country is a threat to national security," said Assistant Attorney General Fisher. "The Department of Justice will continue to use all legal means to stop illegal human smuggling and the serious threat it poses to American citizens."

U.S. Attorney Wainstein stated, "Protecting our borders remains one of our top priorities. We will use every tool at our disposal to break up alien smuggling rings and put the operators behind bars."

"Among the ranks of human smuggling kingpins, Abdallah was one of our major targets. The fact that he has pleaded guilty and is no longer in a position to smuggle people into this country is a significant milestone in our efforts to combat human smuggling organizations," said ICE Assistant Secretary Julie L. Myers.

Abdallah's arrest and charges against him arose from an international investigation led by the ICE field office in Washington.

The case is being prosecuted by Trial Attorney Brian Skaret of the Domestic Security Section of the Criminal Division, headed by Section Chief Teresa McHenry; and Assistant U.S. Attorneys John Crabb, Laura Ingersoll and Jonathan Malis of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia.

***Anyway, glad your day was another GREAT DAY IN AMERICA MamaDearest.****

Thanks Cindy and hope yours was the same. We had yummy chicken sandwiches and stopped at the local lumber yard for more materials for birdhouses. Bought more vegetable seeds, groceries and even went to Costco. Hubby got a new saw at Sears. The sun was shining, indeed the day was very very good.

Also been emailing like crazy today to all the news channels and they must have overloaded email for they are kicking Many opf them back

My guess is that the news channels will scan the e-mails for anything they want and destroy the rest. Truth in media is in short supply these days. We watched Geraldo Rivera on Fox News tonight and both of us wondered if we'd need to find the barf bucket before he (thankfully) was interrupted.

That IS a good day MamaDearest.

Well, we had turkey sandwiches for lunch, and I bought some humidifier filters, ordered a bunch of bulbs for the fall planting and my husband is thinking of buying a windmill. Oh, and I'll buy some more shrubs, but probably tomorrow on that one.

Cleaned the garage and made baby back ribs, brussells sprouts, blackberry and raspebby fruit salad and chocolate cookies for dessert.

All in all not a bad day here IN AMERICA.
