Parents Rip School Over Gay Storybook

Parents rip school over gay storybook Lesson reignites clash in Lexington By Tracy Jan, Globe Staff | April 20, 2006

In a controversy with a familiar ring, parents of a Lexington second-grader are protesting that their son's teacher read a fairy tale about gay marriage to the class without warning parents first.

The teacher at Joseph Estabrook Elementary School used the children's book, ''King & King," as part of a lesson about different types of weddings. A prince marries another prince instead of a princess in the book, which was on the American Library Association's list of the 10 most challenged books in 2004 because of its homosexual theme.

''My son is only 7 years old," said Lexington parent Robin Wirthlin, who complained to the school system last month and will meet with the superintendent next week. ''By presenting this kind of issue at such a young age, they're trying to indoctrinate our children. They're intentionally presenting this as a norm, and it's not a value that our family supports."

Gay "literature" for second-graders is child abuse. Were it my kids, I wouldn't stop belting administrators until the district halted their gay-friendly activities completely.

This is totally inappropriate.

Doesn't matter, Robin, they don't care. Your role as mother is over; your child now belongs to the brave, new world of the socialist democratic party.

The leftist agenda seems to be either abort your child, or we'll turn him/her into a homosexual.

Although I no longer am likely to ever have more school-age children, this enrages me.
This teacher and his/her supporters should be charged with child abuse. The fact that it's "legal" doesn't matter to me, since these laws were rammed through legislative bodies by perverts who insinuated themselves into legislatures and boards.

If enough cannibals do the same thing, must we look forward to being forced to accept cannibalism as a "norm"?
What is the limit (if any) to what subjects are "legalized" in appearance and forced upon the taxpayer, the ultimate master? How does this differ from totalitarianism?

"She complained more than a year after Lexington parent David Parker was arrested for trespassing, because he refused to leave the Estabrook school grounds until administrators allowed him to opt his son out of discussions about families with same-sex parents. The latest incident has renewed the efforts of Waltham-based Parents' Rights Coalition to rid the state's schools of books and lessons that relate to homosexuality, and led the school system to reemphasize its stance on teaching about gay marriage and related issues as part of larger lessons on diversity and tolerance."

I didn't connect the dots until I read the whole story and saw that paragraph. This is absolutely disgusting. To legitimize a perversion that leads a child to early death is just outright hideous. To keep rubbing it in parents face is outrageous.

When will this agressiveness of indoctrination backfire? When enough parents pull their kids out? When the normal folks start an aggressive "anti-indoctrination" campaign? Never?

consistent with the agenda of her New York Times masters.

Don't worry they're going to replace it with what appears to be a sports-themed book..."Pitcher and Catcher".

Who's in a Family by Robert Skutch

Shows the various combinations of individuals that can make up a family, emphasizing the positive aspects of different family structures, including grand-parent headed, single-parent, adopted, gay-headed, and mother-father families. Uses examples from the animal kingdom to illustrate how family groupings can differ.

Oh yes, many liberal parents think this stuff is just wonderful....they want their kids' schools teaching "peace," "tolerance," and "diversity." Who cares about reading, writing, and 'rithmetic anymore. Liberals have even created an alternative to the Boy Scouts because they think the Scouts are "homphobic" and intolerant. They want school sports banned because losing hurts some kids' self-esteem. They want schools to eliminate Honor Roll because kids who don't make it might feel bad. I know some of these parents, and I marvel that I am living on the same planet with them. Thank heaven my area schools are not like this.

Overall, Mitt Romney has done a pretty good job as governor but when issues like this arise, you never hear any comment from his office. Obviously he has no control over a local school committee but he could have the legislature introduce a bill to strengthen parent's rights in these types of situations.

They want school sports banned because losing hurts some kids' self-esteem.

Speaking of self-esteem, one of the findings from the Third and Fourth International Math and Science Studies a decade ago was that U.S. students thought they did the best on the tests, while the Korean and Japanese students thought they didn't do that well. The results were just the opposite - The U.S. seniors were near the bottom of all nations, outperforming only Cyprus and South Africa. U.S. seniors scored below all large, industrialized nations and below nearly all emerging nations, despite the fact that the U.S. spends a much larger share of its economy on education than all other TIMSS nations.

So, our schools are teaching our children to be confident when there's no foundation for that confidence! And private schools do it too - I've seen it in action in a Catholic and a nondemoninational school my son has gone to.

When I was 5 years old (in the 50s) my mother took me to pick up something from an apartment where two lesbians lived. I was curious about the relationship and asked my mother about it. She told me that the 2 ladies lived together like husband and wife - only they were both ladies. I grasped the idea without any trouble. It didn't mean much to me as a kid - I just wanted to know why they didn't have any kids. My mother had to explain that it took a man and a woman to have kids.

The situation didn't make that much of impression on me - I just figured it was one of those grown-up things that I didn't much care about anyway.

I don't believe it scarred me for life emotionally because I knew what lesbians were. Frankly, I was much more interested in their dog than them. The only thing that bothered me about the lesbians was that they didn't have any toys for me to play with. ( Looking back on it as an adult - it's probably a good thing I didn't see their "toys" - now THAT may have scarred me for life!)

Last Fall the Ninth Circuit has ruled: "Parents have no due process or privacy rights to override the determination of public schools as to the information to which their children will be exposed while enrolled as students." http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1515312/posts

Once your kids cross the magical public school threshold your parental rights have been severed. It’s best not to have your kids cross it to begin with.

Leftist indoctrination center or institution of learning?

This is a battle between parents and the leftists within government to decide what is subjectively morally right or wrong - when, if, and how education comprising both moral and or religious beliefs is presented and or taught.

Better than any other, parents know, understand and love each of their children in their uniqueness. Parents are in the best position to decide what the appropriate time is for providing a variety of information, according to their children's physical and spiritual growth.

No one can take this capacity for discernment away from parents.

THis is the same school system that had David Parker arrested for asking to notified and be able to "opt out"

Superintendent Ash, says it isn't sexuality, so it doesn't require parents be notified.

I agree with you, this is Child Endangerment, nothing less. And I would love nothing more than to see these parents take it all the way to the Supreme Court, and to have these members of the school district arrested. If those things don't happen, this will continue, as these people have boldly stated they intend to continue, and they DO NOT intend to notify parents.

There have been, for quite some time, 2 bills before the legislature, didn't even get voted on last convention. Both are to strengthen parents rights.

This states answer was to allow Planned Parenthood to sponsor another bill, also not voted on yet, requiring all this homosexual crap as a requirement for graduation.

I agree, 2nd graders dont need to know about weddings. None of my other children had that topic in grammer school and if the youngest (now 6) is taught that stuff I am sure there will be a huge fuss. I can see it now her biker father in jail over the teacher's reading material. I dont want the school teaching my child anything about gays. Thats up to the parents.

I read a while ago, as a matter of fact, an article, (though I don't recall where) that schools in the area this town is in are going to be looking to consolidate with other towns due to low enrollment.

In a town just north of me, school enrollment this year was down a whopping 30%. That little tidbit I heard on a local radio program. And for MA, that town is very conservative!

Schools are loosing students at an alarming rate. But remember, the schools in the greater Boston area are in very affluent towns. Which means more taxes paid.

Unfortunately most people are like sheep and will bow to the leftest in our country. They dont care about the evil infecting society or their own children - most parents will go along with this and join the chorus of perverted homosexuals who want their children. We must counter the their rhetoric with our own - we need more filmakers and artists willing to expose how the left is corrupting our children, inciting and encouraging racism and hate, and destroying America. We will win people through their heart - showing the true democrat values of hate, murder of innocence and perversity should be the GOP main agenda. But the GOP is too weak to do whats right.
