Minutemen to Bush: Build Fence or We Will
Associated Press ^ | ARTHUR H. ROTSTEIN

Posted on 04/20/2006 6:12:54 AM PDT by 300magnum

TUCSON, Ariz. - Minuteman border watch leader Chris Simcox has a message for President Bush: Build new security fencing along the border with Mexico or private citizens will.

Simcox said Wednesday that he's sending an ultimatum to the president, through the media, of course — "You can't get through to the president any other way" — to deploy military reserves and the National Guard to the Arizona border by May 25.

Or, Simcox said, by the Memorial Day weekend Minuteman Civil Defense Corps volunteers and supporters will break ground to start erecting fencing privately.

"We have had landowners approach," Simcox said in an interview. "We've been working on this idea for a while. We're going to show the federal government how easy it is to build these security fences, how inexpensively they can be built when built by private people and free enterprise."

Simcox said a half-dozen landowners along the Arizona-Mexico border have said they will allow fencing to be placed on their borderlands, and others in California, Texas and New Mexico have agreed to do so as well.

"Certainly, as with everything else, we're only able to cover a small portion of the border," Simcox said. "The state and federal government have bought up most of the land around the border. I suspect that's why we'll never get control of the border."

But he said the plan is to put up secure fencing that truly will be an effective deterrent, and to show how easily it can be accomplished.

Simcox gave this description of the envisioned barrier-and-fencing complex:

Start with a 6-foot deep trench so a vehicle can't crash through; behind it, roll of concertina (coiled, razor-edged barbed wire), in front of a 15-foot high heavy-gauge steel mesh fence angled outward at the top.

Behind the fence will be a 60- to 70-foot wide unpaved but graded dirt road, along with inexpensive, mounted video cameras that can be monitored from home computers. On the other side of the road will be a second, 15-foot fence, with more concertina wire on its outside.

"It's a very simple, effective design based on feedback we've had from Border Patrol and the military," Simcox said. "It's a fence that can be built on the cheap, effective and secure."

Simcox said supporters will try to build the fencing with volunteer labor. Surveyors and contractors have offered to help with the design and survey work, he said, and some have said they will provide heavy equipment.

Simcox said those involved in the planning hope to keep costs to between $125 and $150 a foot.

Access to land literally on the border is an issue because so much is state-leased trust property or federally owned, he said.

"You may have to deal with a situation where private property owners erect their own fences and may be faced with the president sending the National Guard to prevent them from protecting their private property," Simcox said.

He said the Minuteman plan is "to keep turning up the heat" until President Bush has to respond somehow.

$50.00 says your either a Santa Fe elitist, or you have illegals on your payroll.

You lose. You can make payment through my Paypal account or make a charitable contribution to an organization that assists immigrants. Your choice.

Berlin Wall works for me and about 67% of America. You don't think no fence is a problem?

That is because the question that you have linked has nothing to do with our discussion or this thread.

It wasn't supposed to be about the discussion on this thread. It was to reveal your pattern of avoiding hard questions. If the meaning of that escaped you, I can see why questions posed by thoughtful FReepers would throw you.

Why don't they just build the Berlin Wall while they're at it?

Big difference. The Berlin Wall was built to keep people in. There weren't hoards of people trying to get into East Berlin. The problems with unrestricted migration are many, including health problems, crime, possible terror, and the list goes on and on.

The so called "Minute Men" have become an embarrassment to America and a disgrace to the name they have stolen.

I disagree. Just like the illegal aliens who are coming over the border... Oh, sorry, "undocumented" people, to do jobs that Americans don't want to do, the Minutemen are just undocumented Border Patrol agents, who are doing the jobs that some Americans (especially in Congress) don't seem to want them to do.

I have not participated in any of the protests but if I happen to encounter one on the street I will take time out to join the protest.

I take it then you will stand with Marxists and Hispanic irredentists who share the goal of destroying the United States through effecting the cession of the Southwest to Mexico.

The borders of the United States have been defined by treaties with Britain and Mexico and have stood for a century and a half. Our southern border is not Tierra del Fuego, and our northern border is not the Arctic Ocean. The Mexican government properly guards their border with Guatemala and Belize. We are certainly capable of doing the same thing.

I think that the vitriol directed at you in this thread is premature. I have responded to you twice in this thread, and I think respectfully both times.

Your response on the HR 4437 question was the easiest of the questions I posed. I think that your philosophy on sovereignty is far more important.

Should I repeat the previous questions on sovereignty or will you address one or more of them now?

Good afternoon.
"2000 miles X 5280 ft/mile x $150 = $1.584B"

You wouldn't have to build all 2000 miles. Building sections through the areas they infiltrate through would force the invaders into areas that are easier to control. Building over time spreads out the cost and makes it feasible for private citizens. Just forcing them to detour around private land makes it worthwhile and government might even be forced to respond.

There are two important elections coming and we need to let the parties know the real mood of the people.

y friend, this country was forged by revolution, which by the very essence was not lawful. Our founding fathers wanted freedom when they came here and overthrew their own Government. Vast numbers of illegal aliens have come to the U.S. over the past 300+ years, worked hard, became U.S. citizens and eventually spawned families that are the backbone of our country today! The vast majority of these illegals want a right to a decent life they can't have in their own sorry country.

Then let them stay home and have a revolution and clean up the corrupt kleptocracy they are from instead of exporting it wholesale.

Exactly... spending money to put up a castle and a mote sounds like fedual (futile) thing to do :-)

So, post your address and leave the door unlocked. I'm sure that you won't mind everyone on FR dropping by to help themselves to your stuff. And moving in to your spare bedroom. And being covered by your homeowner's insurance. And using your kids computer to educate their kids, whom you will be forced to adopt as permanent wards by law. After all, we will only be in search of a better form of beer that we can't get in our own sorry refrigerators.

What? You think the stuff you earned and built is yours? How bigoted and racist of you!

"Did you hear about the Plague outbreak in LA earlier in the week?"

Bubonic Plague has been around in squirrels in the Sierras for years. I don't remember any cases in humans.

Good afternoon.
"Just how many are of Islamic terrorist affiliation? Who knows?

How many are educated at all? Who knows.

How many are serious criminals? Who knows."

I find the sheer numbers of invaders who say openly that this is their land and they are taking it back to be scarier than the possibility that criminals got in, that and the large number of Americans facilitating the takeover.

The vast majority of these illegals want a right to a decent life they can't have in their own sorry country. I don't fall in line with the belief that they are all criminals and they need to be locked up.

Cross the border once, it's a crime. Get caught and come back again, it's a felony.

Not paying taxes on the money you're making - a felony.

Fake ID and identity theft - both felonies.

Meanwhile, there are many honest people waiting in line to become citizens.

Law breakers....bah... Give them proper treatment as human beings and they would gladly opt to be "legal" and "free".

Hogwash! Many are getting more than "proper treatment" and have no intention (or motivation) to become legal.

We think we can control these people, because we fear we will lose control over them.

More nonsense !We have lost control of them. We don't even have an accurate number as to how many illegals are currently here.

And we only need to enforce existing laws in order to take back control of a situation that is only getting worse.

Can we really stop or control people with this kind of desire without looking bad?

Yes we can! All it takes is the desire to enforce our laws and put justice in front of politicians desires for votes and business owners desire to make money on the backs of indentured servants.

You can make all the excuses you want for why these poor people are justified in breaking our laws and taking advantage of our schools and hospitals without paying for them, but I'll have none of it.

And if a fence doesn't work, pillboxes!

Can't believe the propaganda about how cripplingly expensive a fence will be. Literally millions of pillboxes dot the European countryside. If euroweenies can afford millions of pillboxes, we can afford a good fence! I'll gladly donate.

I would disagree. Yes, hundreds, even thousands, escaped. But MILLIONS escaped before the Wall went up.

The Berlin wall is as non-analogous as you can get because the purpose is as opposite as you can get.

Welcome to FR BTW.

Please stick around. You seem reasonable enough. We'll get you up to speed in no time =)

They should create a "wall fund" I'd donate right away.

Suppose I am not the first to reply to you to let you know they have set up a fund. I sent them $100 today.

They are putting up a fence on their private property. Do you seriously have a problem with that? I'm hoping your post was sarcastic and I just missed it. Noone could seriously think the minutemen are an embarrassment - except possibly a political distractor using adhominem attack.

The racists and bigots who have stolen the name of the Minute Men are only an example of racism and bigotry. That is something for all Americans to be ashamed of.

I figured out what to do about Stinko De Mayo, Burn Mex flags in front of the local organizations supporting the invaders!

I don't care if it is ICE or some "church" claiming they are following biblical mandate in flaunting our immigration laws.
Anyone who is enabling the current invasion should have their building used as a backdrop for burning the flags of the invaders.

Be sure to wear your vest, the invading "immigrants" often get violent when they don't get their way.
