Bush is losing it folks. He's sounding more and more like Daddy who just couldn't relate to us folks!
Don't tell us nothing can be done. He should be out there yelling ANWAR every single day. Talking CONSERVATION... I'm sure the elite in DC aren't going to hybrid cars anytime soon, are they.
This stinks.
Oh, and not to mention LOWER GAS TAXES - help the American people.
mega dittos!
For some reason Bush has capitulated on this subject. I guess we all should get used to it.
Except for the part where he's basically right. Sure, we should drill ANWR, but don't be deluded into believing it will significantly affect prices any time soon. The reality is that global demand for gas is spiking, especially in China and India. They were never major players in the last century but they will be in this one. The fact is that there is little a President can do that wouldn't just make things worse (like price controls).
I've been looking at new cars recently.
I just cannot justify the cost difference to buy a hybrid model. I don't drive enough for the fuel savings to offset the thousands of extra dollars spent on a hybrid.
Perhaps if they really WANT us to drive hybrids, they should lower the price.
What do you want the POTUS to do? Place price caps on gasoline? It's amazing how many folks on this board claim to be conservative, but want the feds to control prices when a commodity gets expensive.
Average consumers have more power over the cost of gas than ANY politician. If folks lower consumption, demand falls. As demand falls, prices fall.
The context for the statement was "what can be done in the short term to alleviate the problem today"!
It will take years to develop new oil fields and bring them on line. Even when and if we do that, new refineries must be constructed.
These are long term fixes that must start now.
As for today, there is no way to lower the price, unless and until demand slows by 1.5% and then the price will fall.
Remember during the last election, Kerry and Edwards said they were getting Ford Escape Hybrids. Do you think they ever took delivery?
You mean in the headlines which rewrite what he said to say something entirely different from anything spoken?
Honda is reducing it's "Hybrid"production.Does that tell you something?
That's 3 cents higher than a day earlier and more than 60 cents higher than a year ago, according to AAA's daily fuel gauge report.
60 cents higher than a year ago? Hell, it is 60 cents higher than about a month ago!
