CA: Organizers gear up for rally - May 1 protest

Organizers gear up for rally
Employers urged not to punish workers who take part in May 1 protest

Readying for a massive national rally on May 1, organizers are calling on employers not to punish employees who skip work to protest, while state legislators are expected to vote this week on a resolution that would formally recognize a boycott.

For weeks, organizers have been calling for a massive mobilization on May 1, Labor Day in the United States or International Workers Day abroad, to show the force of the undocumented immigrant community across the U.S. - an estimated 5 percent of the U.S. work force.

Though organizers have been split about whether the protest should include a work, school and economic boycott - they have been carefully working to broaden their coalition over the past two weeks.

"This whole movement is snowballing not just in the size but also in the composition of the coalition. It's diversifying, it's not just Latinos," said Nativo Lopez, the president of the Mexican American Political Association. In the coming days, he expects Filipino, Muslim and African immigrant organizations to announce they will join the boycott.

In the Korean community, some employers have been bracing for the boycott, expecting many of their Latino workers to call in sick, said Danny Park, executive director of the Korean Immigrant Workers Alliance.

ome small businesses plan to close for the day.

Last week, the Korean Apparel Manufacturers Association sent out letters to its 1,000 members who employ an estimated 30,000 workers asking them not to retaliate against workers who don't show up for work that day.

"We don't want a confrontation between employers and employees," said Mike Lee, the association's president. "We want to stand together."

Angelica Salas, executive director of the Coalition for Humane Immigrant Rights, said she expects most of those participating to be students and longtime Latino activists.

"Day laborers and low-wage workers can't give up their day of work. It's not that they don't support this, it's economic."

Kay Bailey Hutchison has recently seen the "writing on the wall" so to say. I have seen her hem haw around in the past about illegals. Besides, how long has she been in office? What has she done about illegal aliens?
Don't just agree with them now, hold them accountable for what they have NOT done in the past.

It's always the naive and exploitive capitalists that thinks they can have their cake and eat it. I'm not anti-capitalism in an way, but historically it's always been the most crooked capitalists out there that have evitably given the throne over to socialists. I wish business wouldn't involve themselves in politics, unless it's to retain free-market....

Whether it be the cotton plantation slave-owners to the train subsidizing political 3ss kissers, they always make the image of capitalism seem evil...which I believe is far from the truth.

From earlier FR post

Hey, Nativo.. Who is A.N.S.W.E.R. and who do they answer to?

"There is no one leader, and that's a
good thing. It's a shared leadership
among people who we don't even always
know."

E-mail has to be a virtual waste of time...these people need phone calls, faxes or snail mail.

All are a waste of time, get your butts out there like these illegals & get in the faces of your corrupt/slimy/lazy/ congresscritter & make life miserable for them. Then you might see some changes.

So the latino commie groups together with traitor "legislators" are already threatening employers: "Dont even THINK about firing your truant employees." Right, shut down your business, take the loss, bite the bullet and swallow the crap. Or else....

The "Gunny Bob Show" will be on this topic tonight, focusing specifically on how the city of Denver just issued permits to the mob to shut down the city, violate people's rights, cause chaos, force businesses to close, etc.

I was told by the city's Department of Safety that the reason they issued the permits despite the publicly stated goals of the mob, is because the city feared a law suit from the mob if the city refused the permits, with the suit stating the city violated the mob's 1st Amendment rights.

Just go to www.850koa.com and click Listen Live to get the show via streaming audio. We are on after the Rockies post-game show.

Did I miss it? No where did I see "illegal" (or even "undocumented") in front of the word "immigrant".

To paraphrase Napoleon; "When the enemy is killing each other get out of the way."

Maybe somebody with a bullhorn will shout "La migra, La migra" at these protests. If everyone runs we know we're being invaded. If no one runs we know the whole thing is BS. Win win.

Can you ping me about the time the show comes on...? Thanks!

Calcowgirl, didn't mean to dump in your thread.
We are in such bad shape as it is with our federal representatives, and now these CA clowns come along.

Did you? I didn't see any dumping! No problema!

The Federal actions are certainly more pressing than this, but our state idiots do need to start hearing from us. If you notice in the article, this 'legislation' was only mentioned in a half-sentence. I had to dig to find the text (gag). If passed, it really doesn't do anything in law but it continues to empower the marxists and set precedent for future legislative votes, imo. We need to start reeling these folks in.

The only term I know for someone who will break the law to make a buck is a criminal. A criminal can break into a house and fence the stolen goods, that doesn't make him a capitalist.

Labor day is in September. Where did you go to school Seniorita?

I sent email to the author and editor titled 'grossly erroneous reporting' saying the ignorance demonstrated in the article was astounding and that she and the editors should be ashamed.

The author actually had the gall to say "it was an editing error" and that a correction would be issued tomorrow. I guess editors are now repsonsible for providing facts as well as editing?
