One nation under God
The Spectator ^ | March 13, 2004 | Mark Steyn

The US is powerful and religious; the EU is weak and secular. Mark Steyn wonders whether it is any coincidence.

------------------------------------------------------

The other day, the guy on my local radio station mentioned that The Passion of The Christ was the Number One movie in America. ‘So congrats to Mel Gibson,’ he said. ‘And it’ll probably hold on to the Number One slot until the new Starsky & Hutch opens.’

I love Mark Steyn, but the article is a bit dated.

Thx for posting it. Jesus is an infinitely powerful force for good. He asks for nothing but our love...and not only gets all we have to offer, but transforms us into His powerful likeness.

Jesus is the soft sell (Love sells itself without trying). Islam on the other hand is sold on a lie and forced by violence.

If the islamic allah is my creator...I choose Jesus instead.

But the question remains, if the islamic allah is the creator, why would he demand my submission...why wouldn't he just create submissive people.

Allah (the merciful) doesn't pass the smell test!!!

IMHO, the political battles today are primarly spiritual battles, at their root. I'm coming to the conclusion that political ideology alone is not sufficient to address the problems in this country or the world. Politics, whether left or right, is miserably failing. The nation and the world needs a new influx of the gospel, and the reality of Christ living in and renewing lives.

I'm with you on this. This war cannot be won in political or even military circles...I suggest it is a spiritual battle.

But who (other than Jesus Himself) can lead such a battle. Might it be one or both of the two "witnesses" mentioned in Revelation 11:3?

Is the article "dated" or just "old but still timely?"

DS,

I'm a big fan of Mark Steyn read and agree with 99.99% with everything he writes. When I wrote that the article is "dated", I meant it was written in 2004.

(IMHO)

Oh, well I agree. It is a little old. But still timeless.

Meant no insult. Just doing some writing tonite and things aren't going well. Working up the ole crank index to find some better work (didn't mean to direct it at you).

Keep up the good work...and don't mind me.

No harm, no foul, FRiend.

The only articles I don't like of Steyn's are his musical and Broadway reviews. I don't understand the stuff.

Good luck and see you around FR.

Why do I think you are Steyn?

Is it Steyn's freedom of expression, unhibited by an overweening classical education...his penchant for calling a spade a spade. His reaching for the blue-collar language and...

Sorry, Steyn...true and authentic voice does not need to hide (or does it?).

You are overworked, overwrought and underpaid.

Thanks for the compliment, I think.

This is me.

Stay steady.

Which brings up what the place of 'free will' is in Islam. Christianity has an answer for this. I'm sure there's been a lot of different thought on it just as in Christianity, though I suspect not quite as much and with differing results.
