Why are we over a barrel?
The Washington Times ^ | 4-26-06 | Dan Gainor

Posted on 04/26/2006 11:36:38 AM PDT by JZelle

I paid too much for gasoline last week. My fill-up of premium gas cost me $3.04 per gallon or $42.40 just to replenish the near-empty tank. Premium? Heck, we might as well change the name to "outlandish." Like most Americans, I fumed more than my exhaust pipe. I was looking for someone to blame. I didn't have to look any further than my TV. Why investigate the issue and find out the many major reasons gas prices are so high when I can blame the oil companies just like TV news does? That's the attitude the media have been driving home for more than a year now. They bemoan the "record profits" of oil companies and don't bother to tell you they have no idea what that really means.

It is amazing how so many people take what the MSM tells them, and run with it.

"I paid too much for gasoline last week."

I paid too much in taxes last week. Funny how the usual whiners squeal about a $.45 change in gas but say NOTHING about the vast over taxation on everything from gas to your phone bill.

The same people whining about high gas prices are the ones who oppose drilling in ANWAR and new power plants in their backyard.

Rush nailed it this afternoon. The liberals are getting what they want, so why are they complaining then? To focus people's anger on the eeeeeeeeevil Bush administration and the eeeeeevil oil companies.

...or Fox news, or blogs, or the internet, or radio, or FR, or etc...

Since there is no real definitive answer, or way of knowing for sure, we just believe those sources that we want to believe.

It's all where you hide it. The US government could just charge everyone (taxpayers that is) an extra $1000 a year to subsidize gas and bring it back down to a buck, and no one would complain. Well except for those loonies that frequent conservative websites/groups, but they don't count.

I paid too much in taxes last week.

Last week, last year, and all my life. And when I die they'll get the remains with the estate tax!

As for the price of gas.... Let's see, no new refineries in the US in years. Seventeen different grades of gasoline required by enviro-whacko legislation. No new exploration in ANWR nor off our coasts. But not to worry - Schmuckie Schumer has the answer! Break up the oil companies! It's enough to make you tear your hair out!

Visited NYC for Easter break with the kids. On our hotel bill, among the many state and local taxes, was a fee for the Javits Center ($2/day I think)? WTH? Never went near it! Guess NYC bills all visitors for the maintenance of the Javits Center! About the only good deal in NYC is the subway: $24 for a seven day pass.

Nope there is. Basic rules of supply and demand do not change. Fundemental laws of Capitalism and the Free Market Economy do not change. But as usual you just scream down the facts you don't want to hear to cling to the propaganda that fits your political bigotry. New topic, same old Stewie.

This is the same scenario as off-shoring of our industry. The spin is labor, but I am not so sure this is the only reason for industry leaving the Country.

EEOC, OSHA, sue happy society, insurance, taxes, Senators without a basis in economics 101,local regulations, forced medical insurance, price controls, its tough to be in business these days. Business will be gone and also the goose that laid the golden eggs.

Other than the Democrats, Lincoln Chaffee probably is more to blame for this mess than anyone else. It's time for Bush to make it clear who the obstructionists are.

Correct, new topic, but got to be the same....it's the way God made me.

It's too bad the Bush administration is so inept at communicating this to the American people. This would be a great opportunity to "win the hearts and minds" of some people.

I'd like to know what kind of car he drives that he needs premium fuel in the first place. I'm betting he doesn't actually need, but it makes him feel better about himself to spend the extra $.20 per gallon. I'l also like to know how many coffees he purchased at Starbucks and how many bottled waters he consumed that week. If the answer to either of those is more than 1, then my response to him is to shut up and stop complaining.

"I paid too much for gasoline last week."

That's his own fault. If he needed gas, he didn't pay too much. If he didn't need to drive, he didn't need to buy gas.

Wahh, Wahh, Wahh. Gas is cheap, shut up and drive! When the traffic becomes sparse, we'll know the prices are too high. Until then, the price is right!
