Settlement Agreement Ends State Investigation of Rush Limbaugh

April 28, 2006

Palm Beach, FL – April 28, 2006 – In response to media and other inquiries, Roy Black, Rush Limbaugh's attorney, released the following statement today concerning a settlement agreement with the Palm Beach County State Attorney's Office to end the investigation of Mr. Limbaugh:

"I am pleased to announce that the State Attorney's Office and Mr. Limbaugh have reached an agreement whereby a single count charge of doctor shopping filed today by the State Attorney will be dismissed in 18 months. As a primary condition of the dismissal, Mr. Limbaugh must continue to seek treatment from the doctor he has seen for the past two and one half years. This is the same doctor under whose care Mr. Limbaugh has remained free of his addiction without relapse.

"Mr. Limbaugh and I have maintained from the start that there was no doctor shopping, and we continue to hold this position. Accordingly, we filed today with the Court a plea of 'Not Guilty' to the charge filed by the State.

Probably a lot cheaper to pay the 30k and end it instead of having this drag out another 5 years for no reason with his lawyer.

Hope he has another Rush book coming out. Long over due Rush!

" No biggie"

In terms of the facts yes.

In the propaganda value to the left?

PRICELESS.

I am so confused. Was he arrested for new charges, or is this a formality?? Someone post what is really going on, because I simply can't trust the MSM to report it correctly.

This could, and should, have been done quite some time ago. I'm glad for Rush that it's over.

Same here. SRN news (on moody) says that "Rush Limbaugh was arrested on prescription drug charges". And they're supposed to be good guys.

It's a plea agreement. It sounds to me like he accepted a conviction for "doctor shopping" and the sentence was suspended. If he stays clean for another 18 months, the record will be expunged.

Of course I am not a lawyer and I know almost nothing about Florida law so I could be completely wrong.

It's called "Deferred Adjudication"

Promise to be a good boy for a set time, and it goes away.

Same as probation, it's a conviction/plea

Nothing wrong with it-happens all the time for minor charges like this.

Given the alternative-prolonged BS, it may have been his best move.

Not to worry. Just read his attorney, Roy Black's statement. Anything else will be spit and spin.

The states attorney allowed him to plead innocent to a single count of doctor shopping in exchange for $30K, 18 months of supervision from his own doctor (not a state appointed doctor) and checkups by the states attorneys office and all charges will be dropped after 18 months.

Essentially they got nothin except $30K.

Rush's lawyer probably got a million or so. This was a sad mess. Too bad he did not get enough help on time. The state never should have pursued Rush. No one else would get the same treatment.

Rush overcame the problem and came back stronger than ever. We like stories of redemption. I admire the bloke.
