People to counter Monday's boycott by shopping and speaking up

MISSION VIEJO - Sandra Sweet was 8 the last time she did anything political in public. She thinks.

She has this vague memory of being a little girl when her father took her to a political rally in Washington, D.C., that involved the Vietnam War and something about "a march for victory."

So it's surprising that Sweet, 45, is organizing a "pro-American" rally in Santa Ana on Monday to counter what some are calling "the Great American Boycott." Armed with her e-mail address book – and a sense of alarm – Sweet is taking the first political action of her adult life.

I'm going to do as I normally do every day and obey the universal law of inertia.

Maybe they're just jerks. But what does that have to do with an illegal immigration thread? My point is that not all hispanics are either illegal or legal immigrants or anchor babies. It's time all hispanic behavior and all hispanics stopped being discussed on illegal threads.

Not that the thread is illegal but that the subject at hand is illegal immigration.

"Its kinda fun thinking of ways to spend $$ to counter the Illegals."

Other than that, we can run around stores like track stars buying what we blew off buying while it was raining like hell the last few months:):) I need some new clothes, how about you?

"I did a scan of our Sunday paper (DFW) and found that every article, every editorial, every column was very pro-immigration, pro-illegal. Much hand ringing and pulling of hair about what would happen to the restaurants, farms, construction companies if the illegals were forced to return home and how we would all suffer. Not one article that I found was against illegal immigration or called for border control."

Go to numbersusa.com they have suggestions for writing letters to the editor. They also have FREE FAXES to send to your Senators and Reps. It probably won't help but at least we can be sure they know how we feel.

I moved into a rental in 1989 in Canoga Park, Ca. that the owner had moved from and was wanting to rent it as a hedge against the expense of his kid's college education in about 10-12 years.

The guy next door was one of the designers/builders of the Love Bug for the Disney movies and also rented but wanted to buy.

As he couldn't afford to buy the house he rented, he was looking at cheaper houses farther away from his work and the valley. As it worked out, his landlord helped him to get into a new place in a development near Edwards AFB where there was a lot of speculative building on the old Newhall Oil property which was regulated out of business by the environmentalist politicians and moved not long after we settled in.

His landlord then proceeded to rent the house to a series of Mexicans, Salvadorans and Guatemalans charging by the week and by the person.

For the remainder of the time we lived there, over four years, they came and went, mattresses in tow and no recognizable household goods among them other than that necessity.

I occasionally could strike up a conversation with one of two men who stayed the longest by substituting hand signals for those elements of unrecognized speech until the fateful day in January of 1994 when the Northridge earthquake struck just before dawn.

After that, my wife's focus was on leaving Paradise for somewhere the Earth Didn't Move for her; come October we had set our path and the moving van was due - the last conversation I had with the neighbor was the day I sold him two cars that we would be unable to take with us.

By then, three more of the seven houses on the cul de sac had been turned into rentals and we waved goodbye to the barrio as we drove off the first week in November.

I see you are catching a lot of grief here. I don't agree with some of your posts on other threads but I do here. The problem is people of ANY color or nationality being in our country illegally. Who is the real problem though? IMO, it's our government who has given them a wink and a nod for so long. I can't go into a store and look at who is who. Not speaking English, isn't always an indicator because they may be legal visitors. As for rudeness and racism, yeah I know some who are Hispanic. I know some White and Black people that are that way too though.
I welcome the best Mexico has to offer as long as they are here legally and either represent themselves as a Mexican, and proud to be working in America or as a new citizen that will always put America first.
Our borders have got to be secured though. How hard would it be to apply for a work visa? Why sneak in? Do the right thing. I really am concerned about these protest marches. It would be so easy for terrorists to infiltrate .

Maybe it's time you quit leaping to the defense of the indefensible simply because you share a common language or heritage; becoming a U.S. citizen implies becoming a full citizen.

That is an interesting question. If you are of Mexican decent are you loyal to Mexico? If it came down to Mexico or America where would you stand?
