A day in the life of President Bush (4/30/06): photos of correspondents dinner
Yahoo News Photos ^ | 4/30/06

PRESIDENTIAL NEWS OF THE DAY: President and Mrs. Bush attended St. John's Church this morning, as is their custom when spending the weekend at the White House. Last night they attended the annual White House Correspondents' Association dinner, where the President and his "alter ego," comedian Steve Bridges, stole the show.

The best review I found is on USA Today's website. Since I'm not sure how much of their material we can excerpt, I'll just provide a link. The article includes a nearly complete transcript of the President's and Mrs. Bridges routine.

Hey...OF...I know you are an AI fan...because we have talked about it...and I wondered why I never saw you post on the the AI thread...darn, I could have pinged you a long time ago...

BTW..jonny, did you see my suggestion I posted on the AI thread, that they should have one week be "patriotic songs"??

Actually, it would have been better a few weeks ago, when Bucky and Kellie were still on, because there are some great country patriotic songs...but, the ones that are left could really do a great job...I think.

I don't care what the business man sold to make his money. He worked for it and it ought to be his to leave to whomever he wishes when he dies.

That Gate's father is out there bashing estate tax reform is disgusting.

The super rich have ways around taxes and I resent their efforts to enhance the government's ability to get their hands on other people's money.

We watched on the TV's in the Hilton's bar. We saw the audience shots and NOBODY laughed in most shots. Very few good jokes.

We were leaving and outside when a siren was heard and I said, "That must be the ambulance for Colbert's career, it's dying..." And the whole corner laughed, especially those who were attendees.

Not only that, but he paid taxes on it while he was alive and earning it. Estate taxes are double taxation on the same income and property.

Not only that, but she'd be the only person in the room who thinks Colbert is funny...precisely because she doesn't get the jokes.

Not a bad idea, especially with only 5 people left.

It couldn't be any worse than Country night :-/

How about Colbert's mannerisms when he did Scalia? It was simply unbelievable. Was Scalia actually there to witness that?

Actually, that was the funny part. Just when you thought he was done, he'd launching into another flurry of hand gestures. Scalia looked like he was going to loose it trying not tp laugh too hard. It didn't look like Scalia took it as much of an insult.

Not a bad idea, especially with only 5 people left.

They did a very moving patriotic theme the year Josh Gracin was on as our troops were invading Iraq. Josh led the group in singing.

BTW, I watched the latest episode of Nashville Star last night and I'm in love. That Casey Rivers has one wonderful voice. Wow! His rendition of 'How Great Thou Art' was fabulous. Just the kind of guy I was hoping to see on AI -- good looking and with a powerful voice. I guess that other young guy on NS, Chris Young, is the favorite to win, and he's OK. But I'm enthralled with Casey and hope he makes a CD.
