05/01/06

Posted on 04/30/2006 9:38:02 PM PDT by Heartofsong83

This should be a list of who is planning to close their business on Monday, May 1 in response of the Great American Boycott. We should compile it and boycott them ourselves if possible!

Remember to go shopping or work overtime on May 1!

Hispanic school absences near 30%

Nearly 30 percent of the Hispanic students within the Metro Nashville Public Schools system missed classes Monday in relation to the nationwide immigrant boycott, with the absences concentrated in elementary and middle schools in Southeast Nashville, according to an administrative report.

Haywood Elementary had the highest concentration of Spanish-speaking students missing as 80 of its 98 absentee children came from Hispanic families.

School absence numbers jump for Monday rally

Only 14 of 29 students in Lisa Lua's third-grade bilingual class at Lee Elementary School showed up for school Monday....

...Some Salem-Keizer schools, such as Hoover Elementary, had absence rates as high as 60 percent Monday, district spokesman Jay Remy said. Forty-two percent of Parrish Middle School students were absent, and about 40 percent of North Salem High School students were missing....

South Salem teacher Carrie Barker reported that 72 of the 172 students in her classes were absent Monday. She said that the teacher next door had 62 out of 163 students absent.

North Salem High School Principal John Honey said the school had 743 excused and unexcused absences Monday -- more than double the usual number.

Valley Latinos heed boycott
Student absences, closed businesses reported in county

Despite the plea, both districts were reporting significant absences among Hispanic students on Monday.

We are down about 120 to 130 students at both East Union and Sierra high schools and about 20 students at Weston Ranch High School, Messer said.

Manteca Unified elementary schools that have a large Hispanic population, including French Camp, Sequoia and Lincoln, reported missing about 100 students at each site.

These students will receive a standard unexcused absence, Messer said. Which in most cases will translate to Saturday school.

The increase in in missing students was even more dramatic in Tracy Unified, where schools such as Delta Island and South/West Park were reporting significant absences.

The number of students missing from each school site varied from 6 percent to 30 percent of the student body, officials said. Tracy and West high schools saw absences increase by only 10 percent.

Delta Island is the districts smallest school and caters almost exclusively to the families of migrant farm workers. On a typical day the school has a population of 165, but only 58 students arrived Monday morning.

Here in Texas there was just ONE restaurant that closed because no one there to cook or serve, Celebrity Bakery in Plano TX.

Other than that every store and restaurant were opened.

I agree with you, but trying to organize conservatives is like herding cats for some reason.

There were several fast food restaurants here in Austin that closed because of the boycott. Many family owned Mexican restaurants were short of staff or closed and one taco factory was running about 50% or less yesterday.

If they don't secure the border first, what it to stop millions of more illegals flooding our country once these new "guests" take home less money via taxes and start costing the employers more money.

This gets right to the argument at hand.

Border security is one of the three legs of the stool. I have never argued against it, but have argued for it as a part of a comprehensive strategy that uses the momentum of the problem to control the numbers and provide assimilation.

I'm sure that you locked the doors on your home before you turned in for the evening

No, actually the doors are never locked where I live. No kidding!

Your fear of Communists is based on old assumptions. We know that they will always exist, but their bases of power have dwindled to nothingness, and socialism, the forefather of communism, has remained as the only long term success, but even that is failing.

Of course there are all sorts of recombinant variations on the theme, and that will continue long into the future, but some form of Democracy will emerge as the eventual global champion in a long struggle for the perfect system.

Even so, there will be Communist flare ups and there will be sick religions like Islam to take advantage of sick societies and places where governments have failed, time and time again.

You can rest assured, that it won't happen here, unless we too fail to function as a trusted government and healthy economy.

The healthy economy aspect is what brings me to this issue, and it is why I believe firmly that a comprehensive policy that uses border security, expanded temporary worker visas and new regulatory actions regarding business, banking, accounting and insurance, is the only possible answer that will use the massive momentum of the illegal problem on its self to gain control of the situation. Any one leg of the stool that is missing will cause the entire thing to fail it's goal.

As I have said before, and time and time again, border security by it's self, will only force the problem further under ground, create different entry methods and document schemes, and result in a still larger unassimilated population as it all moves under ground and out of view of the government. Worse than that, the families will be multi generational and all of it will comprise a sub culture that will be harder if not impossible to bring into the mainstream. A huge tactical error.

As a result of all this amnesty talk, when real amnesty has not been put on the table, we have already caused another run at the border, just as last time, about a year ago. I fear Republicans will now run away from this issue, doing nothing but tinkering with enforcement, which has been the status quo for more than 50 years.

Doing the same thing, over and over again while hoping for a different result is nothing short of stupidity.

You stated: "I agree with you, but trying to organize conservatives is like herding cats for some reason."

Agreed they are independent and do not like to give up control.

However they have a lot of resolve. They are bullheaded and don't go away just because they run into some opposition.

The secret in this case will be getting them to see the wisdom in achieving visible results of issue oriented internet solidarity.

If we can bust Tysons chops then we might get more respect when we target individual Senators who are choosing to ignore us.

Spread the word....Boycott Tyson Foods

My sentiments exactly... President Bush has made a terrible miscalculation....the Republican party is morphing into a "Wilsonian Democrat Club" ... Globalist and Pro BIG government... soon enough you can choose between..a socialist or a communist..what a choice.

trying to organize conservatives is like herding cats for some reason.

Yes, you are correct .............. Cats are intelligent/brilliant as many conservatives are ................... they have minds of their own.............. that is WHY they are difficult to herd!

That IS a problem .............

So therefor................ Hillary may just be the next president in this wonderful nation.

I have to amend my post 836 now. Tried to go to the Miracle Grill, 415 Bleecker Street, NYC, last night and it was closed. There are a few other Miracle Grills. Stay away.

Tartine, 253 West 11th, at 4th Street, where we tried to go next, was also closed.

The wonderful Sevilla, where we ended up, at 4th and Charles, was NOT closed. Glad I knew about this one. Another reason to patronize this establishment.

I think a nice well-organized boycott of the Mexican tourist industry is almost demanded here.

Border Firefight VIDEO,

Speaking of what you are talking about.........................THIS has absolutely NOTHING to do with that.

*****

I just saw twelve lovely wild turkeys STROLLING through my nursery. They acted like they were Democrats who just stole Congress............ haughty little animals. ;-)

My.............. they seemed so much at home here. My female kitties were in awe of these turkeys! I use the word "strolling" because they are so fantastically CASUAL as they do their thing.

I love the animals ................................

***************

I forget the name of the great FReeper who is the "cat person" (Kittie Mittens????). Please pass this along to her.

I love ............................ cats............... conservatives ................. genius, kindness, .................... and rain.

God bless you, onyx.
