I think that would be great, but I don't think it's possible without US help and I hope we are giving them all the help possible.

But military option may be the only way this can happen.

Reza Pahlavi doesn't want his country thorn by war, but if Iran develops and uses nukes, they won't be any of it left, so better some unavoidable breakage now, than devastation in the world and in Iran later.

I saw this earlier (not here). Why would they be discussing it publicly? It seems like strategically, they'd not want it known?

The Shah was no Boy-scout. In fact, he was an a**hole.

Maybe instead the Persians read some Jefferson, or Locke, or Madison, or heck, even Burr. Look to men like Washington, Admas, Jay, Lee, or Jeff Davis and decide that they don't want to be a bunch of friggin ants cowing to a bunch of asshats. Maybe they should start acting like 21st-century HUMANS instead of cavemen.

Imposing some cake-eating dink on Persia because his dad was the former tyrant-in-charge is not the answer.

Only the Persians can get the entire world out of this can-of-worms.

In other news, Julio Franco, the great-nephew of the late Spanish dictator, Francisco Franco, has announced his willingness to assume the title of Caudillo, "should the Spanish people decide they once again need a brutal fascist strongman".

He would be willing to become a constitutional monarch in Iran

How gracious of him!

I hope the Iranian people DO revolt and overthrow their Islamofascist government, and establish a Constitutional Republic.

But the time of monarchs is passed, and such a vestigial position is neither needed nor wanted in these modern times, IMHO, even in Iran.

Whatever happens in Iran, methinks this gentleman is deluded if he envisions someday being the King of Persia...

Well let's see what happens this summer. If they form a government in exile and somehow get the people of Iran to go on a general strike then by all means this would be a time and place that the UN could actually do something effective too. I'm sure the American people would be supportive of Iranian liberty.

If the terrorist's best friend, Jimmy Carter, had intervened to support the Shah, this would have been nipped in the bud.

The refusal of the Carter government to support the Shah's government, and to allow one of America's strongest allies to be replaced by Islamist fanatics ,passively sitting it out while the Ayatollahs took power in Iran is the root cause for the rise of Islamist extremism and the terrorism that goes with it.

Thank you Jimmy Carter, the worst American president.
Thank you Bill Clinton, who continued his policies, and is not far behind.

It appears that Pahlavi is assuming that US military strikes would demolish much of the civilian infrastructure, but such extensive damage is not likely. Again, there are too many assumptions about our military being passed around and based on outdated knowledge.

It would be cool if he can pull it of, however at this point I think he's pretty much irrelevant. Maybe not, I don't know much about him except that I would bet he's got more money than God.

This was posted earlier, but people always miss things first time around, so thanks for posting again.

And I'd like to say, that you've done a very good job answering questions and replying to posts. : ~ )

Pahlavi will not forcibly impose himself on the Iranians. He wants them to freely choose which type of gov't they want, head of state they want and gov't members.

And yes, he needs help, and I hope he's getting it, because it's becoming more and more apparent, that the State Dept doesn't know what the heck they're doing.
